How does this look?

Ive always had an honest question about that, are the programmers building "bigger and badder" or is it just getting lazier as far as the programming, and equipment etc etc?? Being why computers have to have so much power now compared to back then?? Or both??
It really kind of goes hand in hand...technology gets better...faster chipsets, wider buses (32 bit vs. 64 bit) so software is written to best leverage the technology it is going to run on...most newer O/S are 64 bit, which means if you want to go that route, you need a CPU that is 64 bit and a shitload more memory...a lot of the hardware is not upgradeable on a laptop with the exception of memory, and even then you are limited.

In the software development world, companies like Microsoft are constantly re-inventing the programming languages...shit, I started out programming in COBOL, went to Visual Basic, C, C++, Visual Basic .NET, then ASP.NET and C#...and as I get older, it gets more of a pain in the *** to keep up with all the "new and improved" languages. Ugh!

I hear you so just both really, It is a pain I started learning just basics...and just months it started changing and kept changing and then I was like okay new career time LOL

I'm gonna do you a solid and let you know... 1gb of ram is NOT going to cut it. The rest of the specs I didn't look at because... I can tell you don't know what you're doing. So, go to dell outlet. Spec out a computer. Apply this coupon (20% off 17" laptops: C1HX7?JVHMPPC7) You're not going to be able to game without going all out. Get the highest end graphics card and nicest screen. get at least 4gb of memory and the cpu with seemingly the most value. You cannot have a budget like 1000 dollars if you want to game. Sorry that's just the way it goes. 1k is nothing. It's like shooting for the moon with a bottle rocket.
I don't plan on hardcore gaming, just a little bit to keep me entertained. And where did you get 1 gig of ram? that has 4 gigs of DDR3, 1 gig of video memory, 2.4ghz i5 processor, 500 gigs of hard drive.

One thing I know, is it doesnt matter how big the hard drive is, if its got a slow speed its just gonna be a huge slow hard drive.

Yeah, I was worried about that too, but I shouldn't do anything too taxing on it, it's 5400 rpms, I may replace it with a 7200 rpm later on.

Yeah to be honest it should be decent enough, as Im sure you can upgrade slightly enough. Its not like your gonna be needing a super comp. Just take care of it as some people dont realize computers need to be maintenance here n there (spelling)

This one has lasted me 5 years on a 1.4 single core processor, 32 gigs of hard drive, and 1.5 gigs of ram.

Go for it is what I would say, i got a 4 year old laptop im on right now its been good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm generally against HP's, but the HP Envy is a great bang for the buck to game at about $1000.

Asus makes a lot of nice laptops. Honestly, the Alienware M11x is a great bargain too, but its an 11.6" screen, but will actually game better than that Toshiba.

Highly recommend getting a 3yr warranty through the manufacturer as well, just my .02 cents.

Well I ordered the Toshiba with a 3 year extended warranty so it's covered the next 4 years. I think it'll do what i want it to, I looked at the video card and it can play almost any game on medium. I'm not heavy into gaming, just want some options to do what I want.

my father bought something like this locally for ~$850.

Asus w/ i5 430M, 4GB DDR3 ram, 1GB video ram, 500GB 7200 RPM HDD, etc.

had the choice of two sizes for the same price, but got the smaller one. I don't remember the screen size. The only downside is the ATI graphics. It's only a few months old, so i dunno how it will hold up.

I dunno, not the sexiest career in the world but it pays very well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
