How Does The HC Compair To The XXX?

XXX>HC in just about every aspect...the XXX will also spank the HC in an SPL alignment...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
The XXX handles more power, and has more displacement potential. I realize the XXX loses a bit due to efficiency (thanks to XBL^2), but Id be interested to hear why people think the HC would be louder, and how they came to that conclusion.
And I understand where you are coming from jemorgan, but using 'we all like different things' to try to say a driver that clearly outputs more distortion (the HC) sounds 'better' isnt really fair. Its true some people find the amazingly low distortion output of XBL^2 enabled drivers a little weird, because we get use to the distortion inherant in any non-BL optimized setup, but the truth is the driver is actually reproducing the sound more accurately. IMO that should be the subjective definition of what SQ is, not what each person's personal preference is. Many things in SQ cant be defined scientifically (width and depth of the soundstage, realism of vocals, etc) , but this is one of the few things that can: distortion output. All other things being equal, the XXX outputs less distortion than does the HC. And this difference in distortion increases as cone excursion increases (the XXX winning out). But please do not take this as a knock on your personal preference.

Lastly, there have been quite a few threads on the boards, is the SX louder than the XXX, does it sound better, etc. Now some people are even saying the HC beats the XXX. I think there is a good reason RE charges twice as much for a XXX as it does the HC, XBL^2 and higher excursion (on the XXX) aren't just marketing gimmicks.
I never said the HC was louder than the XXX.....only thing I said was that the HC can "keep up", meaning that it isn't too far off. The XXX starts to vastly overtake it above 1000 watts.

As for the sound quality thing, sure, the XXX's BL optimized motor structure reduces distortion across the frequency range, which is great.....if you prefer it to sound that way. Your sound quality preference may be different than mine....I don't like distortion, but I also prefer a peaky response.

Why no one has run both subs? Jee power Hx2's are louder than Punch Hx2's. The SX is louder than the RE. Its common sense dummy.

Put one in one car. See which is louder.

Put it in another. See which is louder.

NO ONE is going to tell you which will be louder...becase....no one knows.

It's easy to say that the XXX or SX will peak better than the HC...because...well....just about every test has shown this...

But how many people have gone head to head with either woofer? I've seen ONE test done with both the SX and XXX....that's it.

and...kid? You're kidding, right?

nicely put. I dont think anyone likes distortion. I like Crisp accurate bass. which is the same as ur peaky response.

Peaky bass isn't accurate. Accurate = the way it was recorded, which is completely a different thing than peaky bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

As I said above, Im not knocking your or anyone elses personal preference on music reproduction. But the fact is BL optimized drivers put out flatter, less distorted output than conventional drivers. You may not prefer this (the flatter response at least), but its still hard to argue that means a non BL optimized driver has better SQ.

Why do you think the HC can keep up with the XXX in output? It loses in displacement (key for sealed enclosures) and power handling (key for ported enclosures), and the enclosure affects overall sensitivity much more than the driver used, so Im not seeing where the HC really shines to place it so closely with the XXX.

I'm not arguing that a BL optimized woofer will not sound better than an LGLC in terms of sound quality. I was giving my personal preference.....as I have stated three times already, and you persist to reply.

Also, please don't try to educate me with simple facts about enclosure types and displacement. If you want to compare knowledge, talk to me on AIM sometime, and we can discuss more advanced topics than this, such as how power compression affects the performance of a driver. I'm one of the last people on audio forums that needs to be educated.

Slow down there. Who is trying to educate you? Im asking, given the parameters I have shown, why you think the HC will keep up.

As for me persisting, I have also stated in every one of my replies that I am not knocking your personal taste. I thought I was pretty clear on seperating personal preference, and accuracy of sound reproduction, which was my point. IMO its you that keeps persisting on arguing that it's your personal preference, which was never in question. *shrug*
