How Does The HC Compair To The XXX?

The RMS powerhandling rating is that of the coils ability to continually take that much power. It is NOT a power requirement, nor can it indicate the ability of the driver to get loud.

The XXX is better than the HC in every respect(not including price, the HC's were cheaper :p)

I don't recall that ever being called into question during this thread, but OK....................

ite cause i was thinking of running 2 hc or 2 xxx's but if there that close than ill deff go with the hc's considering there about half the price

Thank you, oh basic car audio fundamentals guy.

The HC can keep up there with the XXX in the SPL department, especially in larger alignments with 1200 or less watts.

And for those who say the XXX sounds better, that is very subjective. Have you all compared them? Some people like myself prefer the typical LGLC peaky response, others enjoy the motor linearity of the XXX.

XXX>HC in just about every aspect...the XXX will also spank the HC in an SPL alignment...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The XXX handles more power, and has more displacement potential. I realize the XXX loses a bit due to efficiency (thanks to XBL^2), but Id be interested to hear why people think the HC would be louder, and how they came to that conclusion.

And I understand where you are coming from jemorgan, but using 'we all like different things' to try to say a driver that clearly outputs more distortion (the HC) sounds 'better' isnt really fair. Its true some people find the amazingly low distortion output of XBL^2 enabled drivers a little weird, because we get use to the distortion inherant in any non-BL optimized setup, but the truth is the driver is actually reproducing the sound more accurately. IMO that should be the subjective definition of what SQ is, not what each person's personal preference is. Many things in SQ cant be defined scientifically (width and depth of the soundstage, realism of vocals, etc) , but this is one of the few things that can: distortion output. All other things being equal, the XXX outputs less distortion than does the HC. And this difference in distortion increases as cone excursion increases (the XXX winning out). But please do not take this as a knock on your personal preference.

Lastly, there have been quite a few threads on the boards, is the SX louder than the XXX, does it sound better, etc. Now some people are even saying the HC beats the XXX. I think there is a good reason RE charges twice as much for a XXX as it does the HC, XBL^2 and higher excursion (on the XXX) aren't just marketing gimmicks.

Actually I do. See, if you read the reply just above mine, you'll notice he says "with the same power the hc will be a tad louder up until a certain point, but i was going by rms wattages"

This indicated to me that he was using the RMS ratings as a way to determine what he calls the "SPL"of the driver. A legitmate response in my view. Next time read the entire post OK..............

He was using RMS as a comparision basis based on the fact that mechanical power handling would be box dependent and vary greatly.

Stop running around spouting off stuff you read on the internet because you think it makes you look smart and feel cool.............OK?
