How does JL usually handle warranties? Repair, or replace?

G-g-g-g-g-unity!
I have a 1000/1 that I'm pretty sure is blown. It's still under warranty, so I've talked to JL who told me to take it to my local dealer and they would send it in for me. I talked to the guy at Tweeter today about what I need to do and he said to just bring it in and they would take care of it from there. He said "we'll send it in and they'll send a new one", but I find that kind of hard to believe. I've seen posts on here saying that they have gotten full replacements, though. I know there are some shop owners here too, and I'm just curious what others' results have been.

I sent in my 500/5 on a non warranty repair for $180 flat rate. The shop i took it to dodged and ducked from me for two months after the date that it was suppost to come back. Then the guy called me saying that my amp is back and that it cost $91 dollars more. So i went to the shop and paid the cash and the guy hands me a brand new in the box 500/5 . I was happy till i noticed that it was a B-stock amp. It had a few blemishes but over all brand new.

A little off the subject but I thought I would share anyway. My friend has 2 JL W7 10's and the surround has dry rott. You can touch the surround and it will fall apart. Seems like the almighty JL would have changed to Butyl surround by now. I would expect more from a company that sells a woofer for $600+ Obviously I'm not a JL fan though.

 
if they say they will give you a new amp, are you saying you don't believe them? i'm not sure what your concern is. most companies will attempt to fix it, if it's not worth that, then it gets replaced.

JL doesn't say they will replace. The manager at Tweeter made a comment to his employee (who I had talked to first and was asking his manager on behalf of me) that they would "send a new one". If JL had told me this, I would be happy. Just the way the manager said it, it seemed to him like he was being cocky, if you will. I just don't know if that's what they really would do in my case. I have heard of a shop literally swapping a defective amp out for one they have in stock, and sending the other back to JL on the customer's behalf. I assume JL replaces the amp the shop gave up?

 
A friend of mine took his 500/1 back to HiFi Buys(Tweeter co.), they sent it to JL and he got a brand new 500/1. If you are dealing with Tweeter Co. then you dont have anything to worry about.

 
You will get it back ALOT faster if u can send it in to them yourself and get them to give you an RA# but since it's under waranty u have to go through the dealer where u bought it. Jl's policy is that when they actually get the amp they will attempt to fix it and IF they can't fix it in a week's time they will at that point replace it with a new one, but ONLY if they can't fix yours!! The problem with time is most of the time it's due to the dealer wating to ship all warranty work out together once a week or month or whenever? JL states they won't have your amp longer than a week, but I think we all know that's not always true. Good Luck!!
