How does a clamshell work?

I am aware of what it is. First question is .... is it a 4th order, I lot of people say this. And if so what is it tuned to. And I know it helps if you have a lot of woofers to put in a small space. But honestly is there a gain over say a normal ported box? what are all the benefits of clamshell?

in theory, this 'push/pull isobaric' system would decrease the air space requirements by half, and reduce distortion. the output of both subs working together equals the output of a single subwoofer. I don't know what the rolloff would be, but I would assume its like a basic sealed system. there were also vented and dual chamber systems as well. however, by this time, the advantage of less space disappeared very quickly. Kicker introduced their original Solobaric subs, which worked well in super small sealed boxes. other companies followed through with high mass, low sensitivity subs that required small spaces. the 'clamshell' setup more or less disappeared soon after.

I think it does if you constrict the end of the clam shell into a port. The area behind the sub is the sealed part, the "clam" is the ported box volume with the exit out of the shell being the port

Excuse me, are you lost?

I do suppose if you take the car as a chamber into the equation. Thats too much thinking for my feeble mind though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Not even the car, think about in a trunk car...when the box is facing the rear.

Adjusting where the box is sitting, distance from the trunk, depth of the box all plays into tuning of the cab //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

SUVs the way the subs load off the roof and the distance between the box and the roof of the car acts like a port and effects tuning

Every install has a bandpass effect to it, without even looking at the car itself as an enclosure

i tried one. Now moving onto something else.
