There are many very good replicas that are hard to decipher from the real thing.

The only true way for the average person to know is to have an authorized dealer actually verify it.

One way to tell is the lume, the "glowing" hands/numbers/dots on the dial. Reps generally have very poor lume compared to the real deal. Turn off the lights in a dark room and see how well it glows.
