Title ^. Got some new front 6.5"s and rear 5x7/6x8s for my '02 Escort ZX2 on the way in the mail.

Do I need new wire to hook them up to a head unit or can I use the factory/stock speaker wire?

If I need new wire, how much should I buy?

Thanks in advance.

*EDIT*

Front: MTX Audio TN653

Rear: MTX Audio TDX68

You can utilize your existing wire.I highly recommend using good quality 14ga wire for all speakers when installing an amplifier,But you can use your stock wiring for the HU that you have.

If you decide to buy, and use new wire, I would recommend approx 50Ft 16-14 ga.Min.

Sure thing thanks for the info. I'm upgrading from a stock deck to a headunit and from stock speakers to new ones, but the existing wire should be fine? I'll look into a spool of 14ga or so, just in case.

Shouldnt be an issue for now.Recommend replacing/using new wire with an amplifier.Enjoy:)
Thanks, I'll try! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Will using the stock wires for the new speakers on the new headunit be a big improvement over the stock speakers on factory headunit? Will new wires improve the quality dramatically?

I wouldn't expect to hear a difference at that level of power. Use the factory speaker wire.
Ok sure thing. Thanks both of you for the help, I'm still somewhat of a newbie to car audio so excuse the lack of knowledge, I apologize.

If you really want it to shine add an amp the hu is not going to give you the results your looking for then you will have to re-wire for an amp just do it once any cheap 4 channel will sound 2x better then the hu alone.

I'm wif him.

The other posters are exactly correct that the existing wire will work fine, for now, but if you know you're going to upgrade the speakers and HU, then you'll prolly be adding an amp somewhere down the line, as well.

Since decent speaker wire is cheap, you might as well just go ahead and add the new wire while you're doing the other work, gots ur door panels off, etc.

Well the thing is I already had dimming in my old system and this new system is going to take some more power as it is. Adding a 4 channel amp would be even MORE power, and I can't afford an alternator or anything right now.

how much power are you running? I have a 2000 watt amp on my subs and a 600.2 on my highs and have no real dimming and all I have done is a big 3 w/4g and a yellow top all on a 70amp corolla alt. you may have your gains set incorrectly or your using a class a/b for a sub amp.

Yes I'm using a class a/b. My new system will have a 800w max amp (340x1 RMS) and I'm looking at a 400.4 for speakers and its a 95am alt. Should it be fine?
