How do you ground a HU?

I'm having some problems with my HU/Speakers, and I was told to try re-grounding the HU chasis to my floor pan. I have absolutely no clue how to do this properly.

Anyone know a website where I can find this information, or can anyone walk me through it?

'93 Dodge Dynasty...When I first hooked up the HU and new speakers, it worked fine for a few weeks. The other day when I was driving, I turned it off to answer my phone. When I turned it back on, only the left-side speakers were working. This only happens when I use the CD player, though. When I use the stereo, all of the speakers work fine.

SOME music does come out of the right-side speakers when the CD player's on, but it's very low.

Hmm thats an odd one. I honestly dont think a bad ground would be the issue. Nor do i think you have an issue with the speakers cause they would do the same no matter what was playing. It may be a defective headunit. What kind of head are you using?

It's an Insignia HU from BestBuy. If it was a bad head unit, would it have worked for the first few weeks? I don't know much about it.

I toyed with the idea that it might be the read laser alignment, but I'm not sure how to double check on that.

well if youre still looking at you'r wiring, go to http://www.streetdreams.com and click the oer tab, should give you the dodge wiring....(that is if you hardwired it)

I think you'r ground for your headunit is a steel-braided wire in the back

Well unfortunately thats the prob. with electronics. they can be abd right outta the box, last ten years, or only a couple of weeks. but if it is something like the laser(which would not cause your prob) or anything else internal there really isnt much you can do. have you tried resetting the unit?

Yes that should be his ground.

But i have never used one of those radios so i'm not sure where the reset is on it. but if your pulling it to check the ground just unplug it for a few mins. that should work to reset it as well

Alright, I tried the reset button, and all it did was succeeded in making the working speakers louder. Are there any other options, or do I have to get a new HU?

Nevermind. I just called the technical support line, and they agreed to swap out the product for me. Of course, they said they've never had a problem with the product before...go figure. -_-
