as i read more....i think i can get away with putting 2 rims 2gether with the faces of each other facing together with padding then using tape or shrink wrap to put all 4together and ship them that way. can anyone confirm this?
you have to call and tell them what you are shipping and ask the cost, obviously you have to drop it off at greyhound and you have to find a greyhound near their house too. They arent going to drive a 50 person bus up to their house and the driver get off and unload shit.
I get a set of rear window louvers shipped to me, ups wanted like $80 because the box was oversized, greyhound was $30 or something, I just had to go to the station and pick it up, they called me and i drove a truck over
DHL ftw. I had a fender and bumper shipped from Cali to KY for $18
My rims/tire combo shipped ups, they just covered the front and back of each rim with cardboard and taped it. The tire was exposed, but the rims where covered. The ups guy just rolled each wheel to my door. I think it was about $35 a wheel/tire
Two layers of cardboard on the face of each wheel then cover with plenty of saran wrap. Do each wheel seperate so the driver can move them. Don't let the air in protects the rim. Should be 125-150 for four wheels with UPS or FedEx.
If you leave the air in it adds weight, making the cost go up. Having just the rubber around the rim will protect it enough. 2 layers of cardboard and saran wrap is a good idea though.
take them to the fedex store and ship them. they dont put them in boxes i dont think. i was a driver helper for ups one xmas and they just had a pair like strapped together and i think i order some before and they were like that. yeh i woulld saram wrap the rims. i was talking about tires only
If the grey hound would work that is not a bad idea at all the buyer would just have to go pick them up... If not it seems like wrapping two together without a box is the second best option.
I just shipped mine off recently and its quite simple. I got 2 boxes from Office Depot for the size needed. like $4 each. 1) Bubble wrap in the bottom, and then place rim on the bottom of box. 2) Once rim is in box, bubble wrap it heavily. 3) Place cardboard on top of bubble wrap. 4) put down more bubble wrap 5) place another rim in box 6) bubble wrap on top. 7) another cardboard piece on top. 8) close lid on box (if its not snug, cut the edges down so when you close box, its snug and wheels have no room to move.
9)Repeat last 2 wheels the same way. Its cheaper to ship 2 wheels per box. It cost me $100 to ship 4 all seperate by UPS but only $70 to ship all 4 at 2 at a time from UPS.
