i have a zx650.4 wired to four 6x9's. well my amp cuts off after about 15-20 min @ 18/45. my amp gets very hot. i think its because my 6x9's are infinity and they are 2ohms. so my question how do i wire a pair so that they play at for 4ohms. im thinking that maybe this might help it run a bit cooler. im so sick of this problem cuz when it it goes into protection, all i have is bass. im acually think about just gettine a diferent brand of 6x9s. fyi, the zx650.4 can only play at 4ohms when 2 channels are bridged. thanks

To OP. I kinda had the same problem that your having with your amp.

First off get a volt meter and check your ohm on your wire to make sure there around 4ohm or 2ohm.

Then check all of your wiring and connection. I found that my amp was going into protect mode because of something grounding itself out.

thanks, ill try that.

i thought when u wire mid/high spkrs, that it doesnt change the ohms like subwoofers. i thought that the amp ohms change and not the speakers if that makes sense. i read that somewhere

When actually playing music, the ohms change no matter what you are playing.

Can't run a 6x9 on each channel because the speakers are 2 ohm and perhaps pushing the amp into protect. I'd get new speakers.
If the amp can run 4ohm bridged it will run 2 ohm stereo. Right now his trying 1ohm bvridged. That won't fly. Do the math.

HMMM, I might be reading too far into it and assuming he is running bridged right now because he wishes to when wiring them in series. In any event if he is running them 2 ohm stereo now then 4 ohm bridged will have the same effect and won't cure his problme of pushing it into protect. That amp shouldn't be doing that at 2 ohm stereo.

Specs.

120 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (170 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)

325 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)

Essentially for any amp 2 ohm stereo load = 4ohm bridged load.

Oh, I thought he was running 4 ohm bridged. The only 4 channel that does 1ohm bridged is the digital designs S4a (and that is from what I understand is 2 amps in one chassis). I do see what you are saying. Given heat, impedance rise, etc...I am thinking his amp is going into protect for another reason.

From his post, he wants to run 4ohm bridged, but is not currently doing so. He really didn't specify how he is currently wired. I made an assumption. Regardless in some way or another the logic to move to 4 ohm bridged doesn't add up.

i currently have each 6x9 wired to each channel @ 2ohms cuz the infinity spkrs are 2ohms. so i figured that id wire a pair of 6x9s in series so that i could get 4ohms cuz the amp is only stable @ 4ohm when 2 channels are bridged.
