how do i tune a box???

i hear of people tuning a box in to the specs that they need and i was just wondering on how i do that and how does it work. see cuz when i make a box i just either make a crazy fiberglass box for no reason and sell it or i just work with the dimensions given. so if somone can please expain to me that would be great. :stuck:

Box tuning is done by the area of the port.
