how do i tell if my amp is working

I just installed a new( off ebay) phoenix gold xenon 400.1 mono in a 96 honda accord, plan on using a 12"kicker CVR 4ohm DVC. The amp light powers up. I am using the stock HU. I bought me a Scosche 4line out converter to convert my REAR deck wires to RCA's. I talked to crutchfield and they told me what wires to tap at the rear deck. But I am getting nothing. Everything is hooked up no loose connections. I even unhooked sub from amp, then hooked it up to my rear deck speakers and it works, did both sets of deck wires...I tried adjusting my filters/ gain/etc. on amp....nothing....turning gain up on the conveter unit all the way and still nothing.....crutchfield is sending me a new box...but I am lost.... I am making sure my amp works....I have my speaker wired hooked up on the amp on the far left side if your looking at the amp terminals....help....

Do you have the fader set all the way to the front?

no balance and fader is equal. I even tried using the other speaker terminals on the amp and still nothing....any suggestions.

You could go to radio shack and get an adaptor that will fit into a walkman, ipod ect... that you will be able to plug it right into the rca's on the amp to see if the amp does work.

It has a 3.5mm standard head phone jack and converts it to rca.

If you are saying that it works fine when connected to the rear speakers but not when connected to your sub it sounds like your sub may be the problem. Do or a someone you know have another sub you could try?

to make sure I am stating this correctly...I hooked up everything with converter box. No sound was coming out from the sub. So I tried an old sub...nothing. So I unhooked the incoming wires to the converter box, pluged them into the sub, and the sub works....So then I hooked the converter box back up, then tried using other set of speaker terminals on the amp nothing. I think its either the conveter box, or amp.

tell me if this sounds correct. I hooked my ipod directly up to my amp using a mini-plug to RCA. I had to turn my gain up all the way, and my volume up on my Ipod over 3/4 way, and bass boost almost to half before it started pounding real good.

.....My sealed box I made is(doesn't leak air), 1.52cu ft.without displacement of woofer( I talked to kicker tech support and they told me to build a box at 1.5cu. ft. then add woofer, and don't count for speaker displacement....phoenix gold xenon400.1 monoblock rated at 418RMS at 1-4ohms.....subsonic filter set at 25hz...crossover is a 70hz.... 12"kicker CVR 4ohm DVC wired at 2 ohms..its not sounding near as good as I hoped or expected it two..my statement is that my amp does work...but, if I hook up my HU will the speaker sound better....oh ya box is filled with 16oz of polly fill/ recommended by kicker tech support...My next move is once I get my conveter box in, if I told like sound, remove pollyfill.....
