how did i blow my sub....?

hey guys i put a deck and stuff in my girlfriends car and figured i throw my amp in because her dad gave a pioneer shallowmount sub 12 inch. in a sealed box and its a Single voice coil 4 ohm sub so my zx1000 was only putting 500 rms into. and i had bass bost off and gain was below half with the frequency at like 100 hertz. and the subs rated at 300 rms and 1200 peak so i figured 500 daily would be fine but now when ever it turns on it makes like a rattling sound and sounds like crap?

what you guys think just overpowered????

how big was the box? IIRC, those subs don't need much space.

ya sorry it was the TS-SW3041D. AS for the box it was a bassworkss box think it was prolly around 1.3 Cubic feet or somthing around there

the spider or leads could be slapping, pull the sub and give a good visual inspection.

your sub recomends 300 rms, so you figure it can take 500 daily?

what do you think RMS means?

not to mention it's in an over-sized enclosure...

and you think subs are supposed to smoke?

and just so you know "half gain" doesn't mean anything it depends on the input voltage

my buddy has 3 1000/1's set to 1/8th gain each and he see's 1100 watts from them frequently, he has a line driver but the point is gain level alone doesn't determine output

Large box = more effecient + underated amp = too much power = death to woofer. That's my hypothesis.

I'm just glad we didnt have to teach another noob that bass boost is the devil.
