I toasted my JL 500/1v2 today...unhooked the rca's to my sub amp (500/1) and was working on my problem with my mids/highs hooked up to my JL 300/4. I unhooked sub rca's because I wanted to hear no subs all mid/tweet...Everything else was hooked up to the amp. So anyways, I hooked all door speakers to the 300/4 amp and go to test it out. I turn the truck on and before the music even plays I hear a buzz and then a snap. No more sub...What could have happened? Should I send it back to JL to fix (not under warranty) or should I just buy a sundown 1000d? Im only running 1 12" 12w6.

\\Edit...I just bought a jbl bp600.1 from slammed. Hope it will suffice until I can get my JL repaired. Heck, from the reviews its a great amp so I may just fix the amp and resell it...

too little info. was the 300 new install? was the rcas jumped from one to the other? is ground good?
Everything has been hooked up for about a month now with no problems. All the amps/speakers/sub was all installed at the same time. Only reason I was messing with the door speakers and the 300 is because there was a problem with the rear speakers causing the amp to light up but I found out is was a loose wire problem. Once I got that problem fixed I hooked up everything except for the rca's on the sub amp and went to turn the truck on to test it and thats when it snapped.

I do remember when I was installed new RCA's to the 300 amp the sub thumped 2 times for no reason. No music playing, no rca's, etc.

Grounds are good as they have all been on for about a month with no problem.

I have all seperate rcas going to the amps of course.

Need any more info?

Did you pull the RCA's out while the amp was on? If you did you may have burnt the RCA out on your headunit. Try swaping the rcas from te othe amp and see if you get any output

WITH THE CAR OFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

more info. but, some wires from the 300 must be jumped to the 500.

I dont know how the rca's could have jumped between 300 and 500. I have 3 seperate sets. first 2 are going from front/rear of the HU straight to the amp and the other is going straight to the sub amp.

we hooked up another amp with the same RCA's and it worked...I was thinking the rca input on the 500 may have got burnt but dont know how since they were unplugged. I also looked at the guts and nothing was obvious burnt or anything but had a burnt smell.
