How can I test an amp before buying it?

Hi. There is a pretty good used deal on an amp on the local craigslist. I'd like to know if there is a good way for me to test out the amp before money changes hands.

The simplest way I can think of is having all the wires connected to the fuse box, ran through the firewall, etc. Would that be advised? Is there a better way to check whether a used amp is worth its salt?

Thanks!

have a lil golf cart battery wire wires hooked up and a tester sub /speaker and an RCA to aux Y splitter. All of that is my portable test bench when I buy questionable stuff from craigslist.

Smart guy right here. Hate it when people sell something w/o providing pics of it hooked up/installed and take pics with the amp light on....this will prove the amp functions fine. I have done this in the past whenever I sold car audio. Also too sometimes people leave the amp installed when they post it up f/s just in case the buyer is wanting to listen to it and also proves to the buyer that it works.

I pretty much offer to do whatever is needed to sell it. Want me to hook it up and play the chicken dance. No problem.

Just because a light comes on. Doesnt mean it works. Ive had a few issues with used amps. Hell ive had issues with new "old"stock

I always leave wires ran when selling an amp. I usually have spare subs laying around, but if i dont i use a house sub to show it works.

Power light doesnt always mean fully functional. Just cover your bases.

Ive actually never gotten a bad product on offerup or craigslist. The 1 blown amp i bought was off the forums. But the seller was so accomodating about it, i believe amp was dropped during shipping
