How can I add subwoofers to my system?

My HU has 4 channels,

(connected to an eclipse EA4100 amp that powers 2 front speakers and 2 rear deck speakers)

There are 1 set of pre-amp outputs on the amp itself...but I talked to a guy at crutch field and they said I wouldn't be able to connect a sub via them.

How can I add subwoofers to my system?

you just wrecked your car...and you asking how you can add subs to your system?
Yes, and next I'd like to know how to break into a car and dismantle a subwoofer system. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

JK, but maybe I'll break into that guys house and sell some of his stuff on ebay...thats the only way it looks like im going to get some money out of him

Any recommendations on a budget AMP and a budget pair of subs?

on my 4100 ecilipse next to the x4 rca holes (2 front, 2 rear) there are 2 additional holes (the same size) that say "rear amp output"

Can I use these holes to connect an amp for sub woofers?

Is that the only thing I would have to do to add subs to my system? wire subs to amp, get a power wire. And thats it? I've heard people say you have to 'rewire your system' in order to have a multi amp system...? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Sorry, I'm retarded and lack reading comprehension skills..

So just to verify:

I get the rca Y splitters, and plug the 2 wires into the 2 empty "rear amp output", left and right, then the single side of the Y into the amp for the subs?

And do you think these would be the 'best bang for the buck'?

I see the amp goes for about 150 shipped on ebay, and the sub is about the same price as crutchfield's selling it for. Maybe I can get something a little better thats used on craigslist. What are some brands to stay away from and what are some brands to look for?

Is it better to have one sub or two? Would my setup be able to have 2 subs?

I'm thinking I may try to put them (it) under the rear bench seat or in the trunk.

duct tape them to seats and run 16 gauge to your battery to the subs with a flux cap in between. The flux cap and the samll wire should slow the amps and shit enough to be safe for the subs and the duct tape would be tuned to around 36 hz

Either use a Y splitter at the HU for two runs of RCA's or plug into the Eclipse amps output. I would recommend doing the former rather than the latter.
Why would you recommend putting y splitters @ the headunit instead of the eclipse amp?

The eclipse is in the trunk (where the sub's amp will be), and its much closer.

Are there any advantage/disadvantages?

probly sound better if you got an audio control crossover with sub preout. This way you dont loose the rca voltage needed. then run everything off that. go to audiocontrol.com and look around.

Not really. I got confused on the amp part and what they were saying to do. You could split it there no problem.

Oh man, those a much too expensive for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

For the 200-300$ it would take to buy the thing I could just get a new headunit with sub preamp outputs!

the panasonic hu I have specs say it puts out 2 preamp volts. I'm guessing if i split an rca channel to add the subs, it would make the preamp watts decrease by half?

Would that be safe/sound good with subs?

Or does my eclipse amp possible increase the preamp volts it puts out?
