how can a brand new orion h2 blow at 1200 watts?!?!

Well my friend had 2 12" H2's running off of 1 Orion 2500d in a sealed box but his blew, i think they are awesome subs but ive heard the same that they blow kind of easily and arent very well designed btu he got them prelaced under warrenty so not too big a problem.

You set the DMM to Volts AC, place the probes on the speaker output of your amp (red to positive and black to negative), play a 50hz 0db sine wave (don't use music, someone could get you a sine wave file for you to burn onto a CD if needed). Then, you just turn the gain knob till the DMM reads the voltage you are aiming for (V = sqrt[watts * imepedence], sqrt is Square Root, V is Volts). So, for example....if you have a 1200w amp, and you are running it at 1ohm, you'd set the gain to 34.6V (34.6V = sqrt[1200 * 1])
sorry if im thread jacking but i dont wanna blow my subs...

correct me if im wrong

sqrt(2200 * 4) = 93.81volts

o and when i stick my multimetter in the speaker jacks it reads for like 10seconds then it scrambles and does nothing, after about 2mins of sitting it will read for 10secs etc...its rated for 200volts and the gain is all the way down so is my multimetter screwed?

SO your amp puts out 2200W into a 4 ohm load? Nice!

Equation is right if thats^ the case, never checked the final value though. Check the batteries in the multimeter and make sure that it is the AC Voltage range.

actually i just relooked it up on JBLs site, its more like 2450 at 4ohms and 1810 at 1 ohm, i havnet decided which one to go with, im not exactly sure if two TDX 12" can handle 1225 each...i dunno

my orion saw alot of more than 1200 watts a couple times when i had it hooked up... but i usually kept it at about 900... which i though was pretty F'ing loud for just driving around.

it was in 3ft^3 tuned to 31hz handled 1800-2400 with no problem...

but you said you blew and idmax also...

maybe your at fault after all

My orion fell apart with 900 watts. from what RE told me by looking at the sub when i sent it to them they hardly use any glue at all to hold the sub together. id send it to RE to fix. mine was $100 + shipping to fix but i needed a recone and a lot more stuff replaced your may be less expensive. you cant send em to orion to fix as they dont make them here in the US they are made in china and i dont think you wanna pay the shipping to get it over there to have a 9 year old try and fix your VC.

he already has a real sub, send it if u want the sub to have a *** change.
i couldn't agree more. RE will give it a set of balls that would make your daddy proud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Id run it at 1 ohm if I were you. Its better to play it safe than gain that tiny bit of spl. I have heard of a number of tdx's blowing off 1200w. Actually, now that I think about all the subs that I know of that blew were run off a diamond d1200's which actually put out like 1400w, so you probably would be fine @ 2450w.
