How big are your....

I have 2 drives, but I have them partitioned as follows:

C: 5gigs - holds nothing but the operating system

D: Downloads (10g) - anything Dled from the net that is small. Shareware, patches, even some audio or vid files that I dl from the net stay there temporarily

F: Files (10g) - bound to "My Documents" folder. I keep all pictures, texts, web site projects in there... along w/a few mp3s of stuff that I've put together

G: Games(40g)

P: Apps (20g)

M: Media (30g) - movies, mp3s

Q: Extra Archiving (30g) - stuff that main archiving doesn't handle + ****. Also used to back up my docs an desktop

R: Main Archiving (30g) holds ISOs (app/game install files) as well as updates and/or patches

S: Paging file (2g) - completely dedicated partition for a 2g paging file

X: Desktop (5g) - bound to my desktop folder.
That's nasty.

I have = Windows© and Media(E)

MUUUCH nicer.

Hard drives? Just curious who else has some massive storage on their computer. I have a Samsung 160GB, and 2 Maxtor 400GB drives. I'm getting close to needing another one. Anyone else have a lot of junk in their trunk?
holy shit man, how many full-length pornos do u have in mpeg-4 format????? 1000 gigs of space and youre starving for more? ive got a mere 100 gigs total and less than a gig left //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif and im in more need of RAM right now than i am hard drive space:crying:

i hate dc++, i got "busted" by the MPAA on there, haven't gone back since. although, i do have better sources now, but not archives like those on there. anyways i have 1x 250gb 2x 160gb.. thinking of doing a 1tb raid here soon. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i got busted there as well

I have about 4-5 full hour and a half or so pornos in HDTV (Pirate ****!!), and a few in 1080p (really high definition quality). I also have 2GB ram in a stock HP case. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

server info doesn't have to take up a lot of space. Databases can be big, but "big" is a relative term to what you're talking about. A "big" database of contacts is just text, which doesn't scale that large, even if you have several thousand contacts.
Several thousand MP3s, on the other hand, at anywhere from 3-10 megs a piece (or more, depending on the encoding and/or filetype) is exponentially larger than the database would be. The other thing that takes up space is games. You dl a game off DC++ at anywhere from half a gig for older games to 3-4 gigs for newer games. Then you install the game, which inflates to at least 1.5 times the size of the dowload file. Now you're throwing away space like you have it.

C: 5gigs - holds nothing but the operating system

I think there's a bit of extra space in there, plus space taken up by formatting.. but that's about it.
you complicate things too much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

For people MAD HATIN on my setup (//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif).. this is why I do what I do:

Separation of C:

Easy to reformat.. but lots of you do it anyway, so you know what I'm talking about.

Paging file:

Dedicate space to it, so it doesn't try to steal from another drive, which could clog/complicate things for other apps running on that drive

My docs/desktop:

Easy as hell to access my docs folder, which I use a lot: Type F: into any browser window. Same w/desktop. But the real reason I do it, is so that when I reformat, I don't lose all of the documents, or have to back them up (because my docs/desktop are both folders stored in your profile, which get deleted on a reformat)

All the others

Sure, I could combine them, but again I like the easy access: Q: archiving, M: media, G: games. Instead of C:\Program Files\ and then having to sort through a folder that has every game/app/extra folder for music in it.

You say it's complicated, but I say it simplifies things quite a bit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

EDIT: One last reason: Makes defrags easy as hell. I can section it off as to what needs defragging and what doesn't. Did you know that, on average, your media files will almost never need defragging? Yet your apps/games need it quite a bit. I literally cut down the amount of HD space I need to defrag in half when I section things off this way.

right now, for my laptop

two 320's

a 250

a 160

a 120

and the internal 60

Little over a TB of formatted space. The 120 is now with the girlfriend though, and one 320 is headed to meka's fine hands.

i would die with only 30 gigs of space. i've downloaded over twice that in a day. i envy you sir.

i remember thinking 40 was more than i would ever need. back when ~60 was pushing on the upper limits of storage density. 60 gigs? are you crazy? psh, ill never need more than this 40. i'm not gonna get ripped off... i'm not a sucker.

and now look at me.
