How are subs power ratings calculated?

good to know..

I would assume that the companies would make the subs ratings based on the output of what amps do...

It would be stupid to give a sub a rating and have it not even come close to what the capabilities of amplifiers do..

Ex a hifonics 1606d will do 1600w rms at 1 ohm

You would think it would be a good match for any sub rated 1000w rms with a little head room right?

 
when they design a sub they have a good idea what a certain VC can handle and what types of suspensions can handle what kind of power but they still test it to be sure..any formula that you come up with would just be part of the answer..not the answer itself
