Houseboat audio setup

I have around a 70" houseboat that I want to re-setup the audio setup. Right now it has a jvc headunit that I'm happy with, 2 box speakers inside, 2 3-way speakers outside in the front, and 2 box speakers (That I'm guessing are marine grade) outside on the top of the boat. I can fade everything to the front for it to play only outside, and fade everything to the rear to play inside. I for sure want to add some speakers to the back, but I'm thinking maybe I should add a amp for a better sound. Let me know what you guys think, and recommend me some speakers to put in the back. I want box speakers preferably.

id go with an amplifier to enhance the sq as well, as more power...yamaha make some great amps for home stereo, and, jbl speakers are my favorite,but.. just cant go wrong with bose...pinnacle are fantastic too,and kirsch,if you can spend the money on those.but yes..id add an amp for sure, and find out what youve been missing, and i think you will be much happier

Really, Blose? o.0

And I think he'd have to focus on Marine grade speakers and amps :\ Maybe he could get away with a regular amp if it was inside. Even then, you never know with the salt and humidity.

yes marine/outdoor speakers/weatherproof...bose make some great speakers, and yes he can get away with a reg amp inside..its a cabin/house boat:eyebrow:

MEh... Blose makes some pretty expensive basic speakers.

And I know it's inside the boat, but depending on where the boat is stored, it could be exposed to worse conditions. The humidity could still be really high in there. Just things to think about. I've certainly never done an audio system on a house boat haha, just thinking of things to consider.

my uncle had a 60 footer docked in corpus, sometimes in padrae and he tried different boat speakers out...even seaquest i think they were, and beloved bazookas, but the bose sounded great, and thats what he kept on there, and they held up fine, and in the cab was the units.. never an issue with the components.he had that boat for good lord prob 5-6 yrss, and finally got a scaraab with twin 502s..talking about moving across water..ohh ya.my aunt sold everything within past 2yrs, and is now pretty much busted, but she did on her own.good times on the waters man/coast...id have to sell my house just for dn pmt on one those boats.lol

i do boat systems, i have another one on the docket now. it is a cabin cruiser with cabin speakers, rear speakers, enclosed speakers (that I will wire for front or rear use), a clarion 4 channel, a JL powered sub, and a marine HU. my services have been requested to rewire the system for enhanced reliability. i will also rewire the battery/charging/isolation system as well.

my last cabin cruizer included a 4 channel amp, 6 speakers, and Kenwood HU with a marine remote at the driver's seat. i incorporated a switch for each speaker so he can switch between HU or amplifier power. the reason is for low power listening at night vs. high power listening at speed.

surprisingly, Powerbass makes some good marine speakers that won't break the bank. They are my budget marine recommendation. JL, Alpine, Kicker, and Polk round out the marine companies I like. I do not like Bose, Clarion, or Pyle marine lines. I don't like Bose simply because you get so much less for the money (noting they make 700% profit on every product to pay for marketing) I have no experience with JBL marine.

the key to a good marine system is flexibility and control. the listening environments are diverse and the need changes. from playing to a beach, to intimate listening inside, to high volume on the water at speed. a good system designer will provide a system that meets all three needs while being easy to operate.
