Well I finally got started building DBB's horn for a single 6" driver. This thing is **** big and took up about 3/4 of a sheet of MDF.

A good friend of mine brought over his son and table saw to help out with the cuts. The table saw was awesome and I want one so bad. It made things so much easier and cut like butter. We burned a few pieces but they will be fine with a little bit of sanding.

Specs of the horn:

Throat area: ~150cm^2

Mouth area: ~1050cm^2

Horn Length: ~2m for a 40hz tune.

The rear chamber may be a little large for this driver so I'm going to play around with water bottles to see what sounds decent with it. I'm planning on not gluing down the top chamber and sealing it up with some weather stripping so I can remove it at will.

That's all the pictures I have right now. I'll get more up when I start sanding and glueing shit down. All the cuts were made with regular edges except for the four corner blocks. I left the other two in Ocala; they were so small I didn't notice them; I hope they don't get thrown out. I'll be marking out on the bottom piece where everything is going to go and then sand down the edges accordingly. Greg also let me borrow his sander so that should not be too much work. I'm hoping to get it finished sometime this week but I also need to work on a bunch of other things.

If you're talking about the #4 piece, yes, it will be sanded down at an angle. If you're talking about the piece on the right, it will remain as is.

I was going to but the angles would be so small, I could sand them with ease. I didn't want to make the angle cuts and then realize that we either cut one the wrong direction or did the wrong angle on the wrong side and be 100 miles from the wood and saw to replace the piece.

I got busy last night so I wasn't able to draw everything out but that should only take 10 minutes or so. I'll work on it after class gets out around 10:30. I want to get the deflex pads in sometime today too..

Yep, it fits with about 1.5 cm behind one corner of the magnet. There is also a rubber boot on the magnet that I will be removing when I put it in so that should give me a little more clearance. Oh, and that's as far over as I could squeeze the driver and still be able to remove it.

I have been seeing a lot of these horn posts. Please excuse my newbism but what actually is a horn and are they used for competition or just listening?

They're usually used in home theatre and pro applications as they don't always work out well in vechicles, especially trunks (the enviroment they're placed in is very important, just like in car audio). Horn are also used in trumpets, tubas, and other "horn" instruments. Horn enclosures are one of many quarter wavelength designs that are very efficient and can get pretty loud.

Thank you very much. I may have to build one for my home then. Would it not do well w/ surround? Can I find box plans on that site to make one? How do you pick the speaker (I assume it needs to be a 6in midd)?

See if you can get ahold of a router and roundover bit. I just started using that technique on my boxes and it really increases the overall quality of the box. Great job so far, I'm really impressed with the direction your going in, it's unique.

I have a router in Ocala but I don't have any roundover bits. I would love to do it though and will try it out but I have never done it before.

They can be fine with surround sound. I don't think the site has any plans available. You can use any driver but not all will work great. It also doesn't need to be a 6.5" speaker unless you're talking just about this design. Usually a speaker with an Fs close to the tuning of the enclosure and a mid Q and relatively low Vas will work well.

...I think high vas works alot better...

low vas, such as the DD9510's I have, and you cant even design a horn with a theoretical flat frequency response...
