first off, let it be known that i am a complete and total noob to this whole car audio game. I have done A LOT of reading a searching on this site and i think i have learned a few things along the way. The reason i am posting in the general discussion forum is because i feel that i have questions that are too broad for one specific area.

I guess i will just start from the beginning. My current set up includes:

2008 scion xb

H/U kenwood dnx7100

f/s Crossfire x6's

rear door speakers rockford fosgate 6.5's (running off the head unit)

Alpine v12 600w 4 channel amp bridged pushing the x6's

subs 2 type r 12" each with their own v12 600w mono amp

the subs are in a sealed box chambered at 1.25^3 each

I am really happy with my door speakers. They sound great and get very loud.

Now my subs on the other hand are failing me miserably. The best analogy that i can think of is the honeymoon is over! Sure when i first listened to them i was like holly shit these things are freakn' awesome. Then, like three days later I started noticing things that i hated about them. Oh btw this might be a good time to mention that i listen to metal and rap/hip hop equally.

So here's were I'm at, i "like" my system but don't love it. The main problem for me is the bass. The r's in my current setup are not getting low when I'm listening to rap. For example when listening to that song BME click, i can't have it anywhere near loud because it sounds like I'm going to rip the woofer cone to shreds. On the other end of the spectrum while listening to metal i does okay. I read a guys post about his jbl stuff and he said his double bass hit like machine guns. I want that!

This is the part of the post were i didn't know were to post

here it goes

WTF should i do?

Here are some thoughts running through my head

Port the type r's in a custom box

****ing through them off a cliff

A lot of people on this site seem to really like the FI audio subs. i did some lookn' around on there site and from what i can tell the Q Series seem to best fit my application. Would one of these be better than my type r's?

I guess this leads me into another question. If i wanted to put two of these guys in the back of the car what amp would best suit their power needs? would a hifonics brutus amp do?

basically i am bored with my system. When friends listen to it they always say something like wow that is awesome or whatever but i have to listen too it every day and frankly I'm bored

Sorry for the long post and the R tard questions. I figured i may as well ask people that know and will give me an honest thought out response. I will take the flaming in stride as i am a noob looking advance my status!

other random q's what way should my subs be facing? (toward the rear or up)

what is comparable to dynamat but a little less expensive?

why are some installers such cocky a holes.. (bb and cc)

on the side.

i have been reading things here or a few months and i have a few questions. this site has so many inside things that a noob could never figure them out without asking

wtf is "save the savage" about?

wtf is ftw?

that guy with the giant pink ***** running through the forest avatar needs a metal

show me the thread were it talks about ported boxes and hertz and tuned an x hertz and all that shit so i don't have to ask dumb questions anymore

Ok I'll give it a shot. Here's what I would do.

1. Port the R's if you have room for both. If not, port one and sell the other.

2. In either situation (one or two ported R's) give them more power assuming these are the newer R's that will eat 1000w easily.

3. Sell the R's and get something else? I personally like Fi products and I have owned both. I've actually owned quite a few Fi products. I like the SSD with the copper coils with the BP option on about 1000-1200 watts.

Money/Electrical Saver**

Sell one type R, sell the two amps powering them for one larger amp and port the single 12 type R in an enclosure built by you with say 1000 watts

How much room do you have or are willing to give up?

Big 3 done yet?

Battery?

Alt size?

Uh let's see...

Oh cheaper than dynamat

port your R's b4 u "thow them off a cliff"

or sell your R's and your sub amps and get 1 15 and one amp.

personally i went throu your exact faze...i bought my R's, put them in a sealed box, liked them alot. a few weeks went buy and i wasn't satisfied anymore, bought a TCAB ported box, loved my R's again, few weeks went by again, wanted a 15 or 2. now i got a 15, just built a box for it....so far i'm happy but i doubt it'll be for long. Welcome to Car Audio!!!!!!!

fairly convinced on selling my current amp/sub setup... kind of convenient and or weird that i have 2 amps and 2 subs... sell them together or separate to a craiglslister!

2. like i asked before..... wtf is tuning it to a certain hertz... i understand we ****ing no i don't understand this at all... noob terms please!

3. car audio = bipolar! (soooo awesome SOOO AWESOME..... not so much)
