Hooking Up iPhone To Kenwood Deck

Looking for insight into this topic.

I have a Kenwood KVT-617 Deck. I am wanting to get the cable to hook an iPhone to this deck. I have found that I need this cable setup (KCA-iP500). I have seen a lot of mixed reviews and most of them are for iPod only. I know it should be iPhone compatible, but is it possible to operate other music apps other than just the iPod (ie, pandora/napster)? Also, is it worth the hassle or are there any other options than this?
