hooking car amp for home system

With just that one battery i listened to the radio for about 10 minutes having 2 15" subs going at 360 wrms, and afterwards i hooked up the charger to the battery and it is stable at 4 amperes, im not sure what this means but i'll let it charge for 20 minutes and if it hasn't gone up to 6 amps or if it goes down, then im guessing it is done charging, however it would be nice to know how long it would take to drain the battery with 580 cranking amps if its running a 34 ampere amplifier.
Charging current is fairly irrelevant. Once the battery shows 12.6v at resting (no load and no charge), it's done charging. You could shove 4a into it for days after it's reached full charge depending on the charger you use if you felt like it, so don't use charge rate as a way to see if it's charged...if you find the AH capacity you could do some basic math to get estimated time for it. If you keep an eye on the battery, you can just play the system and see how long it takes for it to drop under ~10.5v.

i think that would be easier than looking for the ah of this battery, its new but its just a walmart everstart battery. All it says on it is the cca and the ca, nothing of ah.

Hmm. I've never seen a battery without capacity on it...i have a walmart everstart i purchased only a few months ago and it says capacity. Might be somewhere out of the way not near the other stats if i recall correctly. If you know the model # you could look up the specs online.

I hooked up a 1/2 farad capacitor just because it's pretty and it's got a digital voltameter on it, so far it's been playin for half an hour, it's gone down to about 11.5v, so if gets near 10.5, then it's time to recharge?

Yup. 10.5v and lower under load is done. It should rebound when you turn off the stereo to just around 12v. Don't draw it under 10v.

k, do you think if i were to hook up this setup in my living room to the dvd player that it would make watching movies more enjoyable? Considering my surround sound has this little 6" woofer?

Dude that is ghetto as hell //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I thought you was just testing some stuff when I read this but your actually planning on using this daily.

Lmao!!!

I was thinking of doing the same...

I wanted to have some bump in the house, using 2 15's off of 1000 watts, but seeing this, it would be wayyy to tedious to even attempt.

It's not tedious. Just buy a power supply, don't **** around with all this bullshit with batteries. My 70amp 13.8volt PS cost under 100$. It'll power just about anything i'd want to play in my house

i wouldn't suggest watching Pearl harbor with this setup, with the crossover set at 40 hz, the subs were rattling my windows for nearly the whole movie. Every time that gay song would come on.
