hooked up new headunit. but no sound?

hey guys,

I just recently bought a used kenwood double din from someone here on the forums. I wired it up last night and everything works fine except for some reason it wont play any sound. I have a dodge ram 1500 2004 and it has the infinity speakers in it and also has a factory amp that powers them. I just bought a regular wiring harness from wally world to hook this up. Did I miss something?

check the internal settings for hi out low out settings. If nothing, you got ripped...

did you connect the remote turn on wire from the kenwood to the solid blue wire in the walmart harness?

agreed, you need to turn on the factory amp with the blue/white remote turn-on wire.

solid blue wire is radio power antenna (sound with radio but no sound with CD)

your factory dodge amp is turned off.....

or its the wrong harness, if its the premium sound package, it may take a special harness that often bypasses the stock amp. its like that in lincolns with premium sound

Good call. The Metra 71-6502-1 install instructions will give you some factory wire pin descriptions.

The Metra 70-6510 is the amp bypass harness - but you should be concerned with powering the factory Infinity speakers directly due to low impedance and active crossovers in the factory amp.

thanks guys. I didnt come back to respond because I figured it out at work the next morning. It just hit me while I was sitting there thinking about it that I didnt hook up a remote. once I did it worked. haha I felt like such an idiot. thanks again though guys

I have the infinity system in my jeep, didn't buy any harness, i just gave the amp power using the remote....

Might have to connect the ground to the headunit's ground as well..
