Hi guys,

My friends and I installed a set of infinity kappa speakers in my 2001 accord. All went well, but after the installation was finished and everything put back together there are some new issues with my car that did not exist before the speaker install.

1) The backlight for my clock no longer works

2) the SRS light is now on

3) my passenger side power window makes a disturbing rubbing sound when it is opened.

4) my drivers side door makes a breif thumping sound when the window is almost all the way down.

I'm hoping that the clock backlight and SRS light are fuse issues that can be fixed easily.

I don't know what is going on with my power windows. My friend mentioned it might be the wire input for the speakers, which they did not tape to the door when they installed them. He said the window may be rubbing up against it. That may be the case for the drivers side window, which seems to make the noise when it reaches to where the speaker is, but for my passenger window, it makes the loud rubbing noise immediately whenever the window is opened, even when it seems to be far from the speaker area of the door.

any help!?

Thank you

good timing my friend.

i have the same car. check out this build log for info - i can answer any of your questions. http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1369669&page=1#Post1369669

1. the clock uses a small incandescent bulb - which can burn out - but a loose wire is usually the culprit. "jiggle the handle"

2. SRS comes on anytime you disconnect a SRS item and turn the car on, or do it when you don't disconnect the battery negative. you need to have a dealer turn the light off. yes, it's annoying.

4. your speakers are too deep - you need to bring them out away from the door - some 3/4" closed cell weatherstripping foam between the speaker and the metal door will give you extra depth, create a seal, and reduce any buzzes. don't forget foam between the speaker and the plastic door panel grill

3. may be from wiring getting in the way of the window armature - or the passenger door wasn't properly assembled. is there any play in the window when it's part-way open? i.e. when the door panel was put on, it didn't correctly seat and isn't keeping the window glass off the metal door.

After being installed, the speakers were already pushing the plastic grate that covers them in the door panel out more than they used to be, wouldn't adding foam make it impossible to keep the plastic cover? I think it would look crappy w/o the cover...

don't remove the factory grill, trust me on that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what did you do to make a baffle? are you sure the speaker surround isn't touching the plastic grill? did you install coaxial or component speakers? is the coaxial tweeter touching the grill?

don't put coaxial speakers in the front of that car. you have a perfect platform for component speakers with tweeters in the dash.

sounds like you have a coaxial speaker that is too deep for the installation. now that you've damaged the magnet with the window you won't be able to return them.

please verify these assumptions. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm not sure of the difference between coaxial and component speakers, but the kappa's that I installed in the front have the tweeter touching the grill. this isn't an issue, however, because the tweeter itself has a metal grill protecting the silk dome.

what do you mean when you say don't remove the factory grill? I never did.

Also, regarding your post about my clock backlight, which handle should be "jiggled"?

thanks for your quick responses by the way

a coaxial speaker has a tweeter mounted in the middle of the speaker. that is your problem. the tweeter is sticking out too far causing the door panel to not fit right and the speaker to be too deep. they won't work for several reasons. a component speaker has the tweeter separate for mounting in the factory dash location. additionally - you don't have a seal between the door panel and the speaker - which the factory speaker had - this will result in reduced low frequency response (i.e. bass). you must make the speaker clear the window - that is #1 priority.

remove the clock and make sure both wire harnesses are connected and the wires are well seated. if that doesn't fix it, replace the bulb.
