Just wondering what everybody thinks about my plans for the following equipment to be installed in my 2004 Honda Pilot? I am looking for a system with some kick, but not entering any competitions. I listen to everything from Korn, Doors, 50 Cent, Tim Mcgraw, Chicago, Carpenters, 311, and so on. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks...............

2004 HONDA PILOT INSTALL

FACTORY HEAD UNIT (Will change out in the summer)

///ALPINE MRP-M350 (run a single 10” sub)

///ALPINE MRP-F240 (run 2 pairs of 6.5” speakers in front and rear doors)

///ALPINE SWE-1042 (not sure about this sub. Open to alternative suggestions)

///ALPINE SPS-170A or POLK AUDIO DB650 (Leaning towards the Polks)

Yea, I am leaning towards the Polks for the 6.5" and possibly a JL Audio 10w3v2 for the sub. I have some time to think about this and thats why I asked for opinions. I was thinking the Alpine SWE-1042 just because they are on sale right now. Any body else have any thoughts?

We need some more info from you.... budget, your skills installing, willingness to learn etc. Also going all Alpine isn't neccisarily bad but you can do better for the money... especially in the speaker department...

ohh and welcome to the forums.... a 10w3v2 isn't a bad choice... I like 12"s better for all around subs... especially if you lean towards rap...

I have a basic budget of $700 right now (that's why I am waiting on the HU portion of this install). I am installing the whole system with one of my buddies (can't see paying somebody else big cash to install something I am very capable of doing). I know my budget isn't that great, but I am lucky to have that. I made a deal with the wife that whatever I sell on Ebay, I get to keep the money for whatever I want use it on. She rolled her eyes when I told her that its going towards upgrading the audio in the Pilot. Oh well....So that's where I stand. I am open for suggestions on alternative equipment, but I am kind of set on the amps. I started off looking at the Phoenix Gold Octane series amps, but have heard nothing but poeple rip on them.

Ok $700 isn't bad if your willing to do ebay... check my woman's car in the sig.. it sounds AMAZING and we did it on a $500 budget with the HU (sub was a freebie)... As for the amps the zapco Iforce will eat the alpine alive... Try finding a local shop with them and have them demo an alpine vs the iforce on some focal comps (if they have zapco they will have focal)... you'll hear the difference! While your there demo some alpines vs focal speakers... then you'll want the Iforce/Focal combo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif... and for $300 you can't go wrong even if you have to wait for an iforce to show up on ebay (scour the used classifieds here as well) As for the sub/amp combo there are so many choices it's mind boggling... You can save money on the amp here because all you need is reliable power, not a ton of features.. you could go with a cheaper amp (hifonics, MTX, viper, lanzar, etc etc) and you'll prob be looking around 150 for a decent 12" or 10". I'd suggest Adire Shiva (I like mine), JL something or another, well I'm sure you'll get lots of subs suggestions... I'm not really into all the diff subs... RE, Avalance, uhh there's more

You seem to have a major Alpine chubbie! For $700 eh? I'll do some research and get back to you. For the future though, you may want to consider a JL Audio Cleansweep instead of replacing the deck- it has equalization galore and you retain the clean looks of the factory unit and steering wheel controls.

No Alpine chubbie here! I have a buddy that works at Best Buy and he can get a good discount on equipment. Thought it made sense to use the buddy discount........//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

go listen to the Focal/Zapco combo and you won't want the Alpines //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif... though that discount will come in very handy for install stuff (wiring etc) and the HU down the road......

I usually don't buy electronics of Ebay due to the fact that I'm probably getting somebody else's junk that they have beat on. I have bought and sold many other items on Ebay, but not electronics.

I have purchased quite a bit of car audio on Ebay and I've had 0 problems (overall the only thing I had arrive broken was some shopvac). Look for NIB items and high feedback and you should be ok...
