Home exercise equipment?

My fiance has asthma, thus it makes it hard for her to run in the cold weather. She wants to buy a treadmill sometime in the future. We could get a membership to a gym, but she's pretty persistent about getting one for home. A year's membership for the two of us is around $500. Some more, some less. In 2 years our equipement would pay for itself. So...I'm considering getting a Bowflex extreme for myself.

My friend works at a place where they sell workout equip and can get a pretty hefty discount for us (~50% for some things).

Curious as to who here has home exercise equipment, and what kind you use.

^^

Been going to a gym for a very long time. She has a lot of things with her that keep her from being able to go to a gym regularly. I have no issues with her getting a treadmill because she'll use it. I just don't want to force her to go to a gym, and if buying a home weight training system is my only way to get her to workout with me, then so be it.

Now please, no more posts about "go to a gym".

seriously, get her a jump rope. They work really well. For the cardio part anyways
lol. That is very true.

Man, I didn't realize how expensive the Bowflex's were. I know they have intro lines, but the restance only goes to 210 lbs. Not much room for improvement.

That gym membership is looking much better now. May have to get a 24 hour membership.

Nah. But right before I separated my shoulder I was shoulder pressing 150, and benching 200.

If I ever tried to max out with 210 lbs it wouldn't be great. I would just like the head room. Know what I mean?

I was working out with 200.

I never do over 8 reps really. Once a month I'll do a max-out just to see where I'm out and if I need to adjust my workout loads.

By looking at me you'd think I never work out. Haven't touched weights since last August when I started having bad back pains (herniated disc). I used to weigh 175, now I weight 165 and I'm pissed at myself. My brother's a trainer and I've been working out for 5 years. I ride BMX so it's hard for me to gain weight and keep it on with my metabolism. I started working out right after I broke my elbow. Stayed with it to prevent injuries, but since then I've broken both ankles, wrist, separated shoulder, and now a herniated disc. Suuuucks. Hoping that I can gain about 10 pounds before June 9th (my wedding date). If not, I'm gonna be mad at myself.

I think I'll be starting back in a couple weeks once my physical therapist gives me the OK.

maybe the boxflex and a cheap flat bench
Good idea. I need to look into used (garage sales, classifieds, and play it again sports). Thanks for that idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

we have a eliptical (sp?) that we got from costco that my dad always uses, i'd personally go to a gym for the variaty, one day i do free weights, then other day i would do Abs, i just like the gym atmosphere too cuz i HAVE to work out when im there unlike at home when i would jsut keep putting it off

I picked up a pretty cheap bench set from Big 5 a while ago for like $150, then bought a 300lb bench set for another $100. Havn't used it in a while tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
