Holy Air Leak!

So I got my new TC 1000's and tried to put them in my old probox.

I removed my AA Assassin and installed the TC 1000. I used weatherstripping clay to get a good seal around the base, however if i push carefully on the center of the woofer I can hear air escape from the top of the screwholes.

Now I don't believe the air is escaping from the screw hole in the box, but it is shooting out over the tops of the screw heads. Does this mean the sub has a leak in the surround itself? How can I determin this?

pull the gasket off and check. I doubt it does. Only way it really would have is if the surround detached from the basket. Have you tried silicone?

I tried pulling the gasket off and sealing the woofer to the box with the weatherstripping clay but the problem is that the woofer hits the bottom of the box. I guess The mounting depth and magnet width are too much to mount the woofer without the gasket; about or 1/16th or 1/8th of an inch to tall. (sub is angled a bit and it is a very tight fit) I don't have a 1/2 inch clearance for the pole vent so I hope it is ok....

When I pulled teh gasket off I noticed that the surround has notches in it for an 8 screw basket. The basket the sub uses is a 6 screw. So the notches in the surround do not line up with the screw holes.

This means that the surround is only attached by a mm or 2 in some unnecessary places...

In fact in a few places where the surround is notched, there are casting indentations in the basket, meaning not only is the surround only attached in this location by 2mm, it is also sealed to the basket where it is not flush (indented with casting mark)... I don't knwo why TC would make them like this...

I can not feel any air coming out from underneath the gasket around the sub, but I can feel air shooting up next to some of the allen-head screws.....

naw new box.. he needs more clearance over the wood... 3/4" is not going to help if its ON THE BOX.

New box? Jeez I can't run out and purchase another $400 box every time I have a problem. I don't think the problem is the box...it worked witht eh last 2 subs that were in it....I guess Ic ould put the Assassin back in and run a 10" assassin and a 10" TC 1000?

I can't add another baffle, then the sub would be proping the box up off the floor (this is downfire custom built to fit under the rear seat of my truck)....

I rotated the sub 180 degree and the airleak is STILL coming from the same spot on the sub (not the same place on the box)...

Guess I should have purchased something from another company besides TC sounds....

Duct tape fixes everything...almost.

I Swapped the subs.

I put the one that was sealing fine into the hole where the other one was not sealing.

Sealed up first try.

I took the one that is not sealing and put it on the side the other sub was sealing up fine. No Dice. I removed all teh clay made sure hte surface was perfect and tried again...Still no seal.

In conclusion I have decided that the TC 1000 is defective...

Good news, TC is going to replace the woofer.
