Holophonic sound is designed for headphones. If you had a really basic 2 channel setup in your car, and really good dampening you might get some sort of effect out of it, but so much of it would probably be lost due to the fact that you aren't wearing headphones.

Holophonic sound is so trippy because it's recorded with a microphone designed to record sound exactly as a human ear would, they even make a fake ear and head as part of the mic, and when you play it back with headphones millimeters away from your ear you get the output straight to your ear just like it was recording. This is what makes it so realistic.

I actually played the holophonic sound track, the one with the book of matches or whatever, in my car, and it sounded cool, but nowhere near as convincing as when I did it on my computer with headphones. Even if I switched the output on my carpc to 2.1 speakers or headphones it just wasn't quite the same, it sounded cool, but I didn't really buy into the illusion like with the headphones. When I did it on the computer I literally would turn around thinking somebody was walking up behind me.
