Hmmm, idea? Two components sets...

Well, I've been thinking about it, and even though I am very satisfied with the rainbows, maybe I shouldn't let my old PG rsd set go to waste. So what if I managed to put two component set, "in" the doors? Power them both by the same amplifier, which should drop the impedance load down to 2-ohms which should split 200watts between them; more than enough to operate well.

So the placement of the set is an issue, I want them to go inside the door near the current speakers to avoid any imaging or sound issues. But I also don't want to have to cut new holes into the door to fit the devices, but I will if I have to.

These following pictures are of the interior door frame, minus the different layers of deadening which are currently on them now. As you can see, the only real possible pre-existing holes that can be used are circled in red, but I would have to cut some of the baffle off to expose the hole a bit more. Even them I'm not sure, I would have to cut a mounting baffle to go over it, but hopefully there will be enough room to fit the magnet.

These next two pics show possible tweeter mounting locations, I had to cut into the door frame on the left side of the truck with shears to get that tweeter to sit properly into the panel, this hole I made may need to be lengthened for the second set of tweeters.

To mount the tweeters, flush-style, like I had before I'll need some new suspension brackets to brace them to the door panel since the ones previously bought are broken from their removal.

Anyways, not sure where I can get those, comment?

i wouldnt do that to be honest. 2 of the same component sets should be ok, but two different sets, AND both in the front doors?

this is like running two different subs in the same enclosure...

If you put both sets really close together you might be ok but you'll still need good processing for imaging. I have a 3way active setup and it gets loud as hell and sounds awesome, it's really all you need.

I am not an expert on mobile audio by any means. However, I have heard other experienced installers/journalists state that running too many speakers in a system gives your music a more artificial sound.

I have always been advised that the best way to go ( for sound quality ) is to use good components with steps taken to achieve the right imaging and soundstaging. Like I said, this is simply what I have been advised by others.

I don't think imaging is a concern for the OP
Imaging is always a concern, please expand upon your statement.

To be honest, I want a bit more midbass, like a dedicated 6.5" - 8" driver that would be ideal for reaching and hitting the notes that the 6.5" woofer on the SLC set can't hit very well.

I'm not going active, yet, so something with a good built in or seperate crossover to filter the frequencies, but I honestly have no idea where I would put a dedicated midbass at....

Every driver has a different phase response. Allow two drivers with different phase responses to play the same freqs and you end up with a big blur for the output and a very peaky response. It would require some very powerful processing to get it to sound even OK and I don't know of a processor out right now that could do it.
