Got ripped last night and decided to put a system in the Montero, ended up buying some audiobahn 1200q's, a re 3000.1 amp, now looking for a low frills, high power HU to run 4 6.5's. As long as it has a usb hookup, Im good. Seems kenwood has some nice stuff out? How's it perform?

There is no such thing as a "high power" head unit. Most put out about 15-22 watts RMS, which is hardly "high power". Check the manuals to be sure.

I don't think that tinkering with the Alpine power pack is worth your money or time. The thing costs over $100 and puts out just 4x45watts RMS. The thing is not bridgeable and works only with Alpine stereos. I also wonder how they can get 4x45watt RMS power when most cars run very thin power wire to the head unit. Instead, take a look at a budget 4 channel amplifier, such as PPI Sedona or Black ICE.

Here is an interesting find for $120

Power Acoustik RZ4-2000D (rz42000d) Monoblock RAZOR Class D Car Amp

This thing is likely overraged, but should beat the power pack.

The PP's seem to be around 70+ used, might as well just get an amp. That autotek isn't bad, but can't seem to find teh rms ratings on it. Might as well pony up the $$$ for a real setup and get another amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

always your best bet man, and if it comes down to spending a little more for quality it's always worth it in the end.

The RMS power from HU's like mentioned before is 20 watts max, power generated by transistors, not good, an amp has power delivered by better electronic components and capacitors, that will not fit in an HU.
