High level input tapping question...

Quick question for you guys...

I have a 2004 RX-8 with a Bose (blech) system. I am going to replace all my speakers and components. I got a Kicker 5 channel amplifier with high level inputs.

I was thinking about how I 'tap' my connections... as it stands I need 8 connections (Right Front/Rear, Left Front/Rear both positives and negatives) to fire up the amplifier. I was going to use the head unit and tap right off of that, however there are wires that run in the trunk -- but just the Rears. Can I tap those twice? Like, I'd wrap the high level inputs for Right Front and Right Rear onto the Right Rear output from the head unit, and then wrap both Left Front/Rear onto the Left Rear to get my inputs.

Any disadvantage to this? Will it work as I need? It will make my wiring a bit simpler but I'm trying to figure out first if I should do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!

I don't know if your amp can have its high level inputs shorted together like that. Maybe someone else here will know.

Another option is to get a line converter which will take the high level rears from the HU and output the signal on RCA's. Then you could use a y-cable to split the RCA's and feed them into the amp's low level inputs.

I've heard that Bose systems are matched systems, ie the HU is specifically eq'd for the original speakers. It might not sound right running other speakers off that HU and vice versa. Something to look into.

Well my amp takes differential inputs, so I'm not too worried about the EQ. After doing the research, the signal is EQed AFTER it goes through the Bose amplifier, and is flat before it. The HU for my car is identical to the stock as far as I know, it's just the amps that make the difference.

It's not a big deal to me if I have to connect 8 high level inputs to 8 different wires instead of 8 wires to 4 wires (2 on each)... just makes my life a little easier if I have to do it the latter of the two ways //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!
