Hifonics vs. Power Acoustik

I'm tight on money so I can't spend much on an amp, but I need something that will pound my 2 RF Punch P2's DVC 4ohm wired at 2ohm each.

I have a brand new Jennsen power 900 that worked great....for about 30 mins. Than it crapped out on me.

I'm lookin at either a Power Acoustik Reactor REACT1-1100 for $100 or a Hifonics BXi 608 for $130.

Which one would be better?

Where does 1000w come into play?

The Jensen was a 340w amp. The power acoustik is 400. The HF will give you aroun 600w at 1 ohm.

Question though...if your subs were wired for 2 ohms each and you were running them with a 2 ohm stable mono amp how did you connect them? Sounds like you might have had them at 1 ohm which is likely to cause amp failure, or at least thermal protection.

You would have a similar problem with the Power Acoustik.

The HF is the only logical choice of the three.

You could also look into some good sized 2 ch amps. You could bridge it and wire the subs to 4 ohms.

You'll be lucky to get 300 watts RMS out of that Power Acoustik Reactor REACT1-1100 at a 4 ohm final load. If you wire it 1 ohm, it will more than likely follow the short lived path of your Jensen!

At least the Hifonics BXi608 claims to be 1 ohm stable and should give you 500 watts RMS. Yes I know it is rated to deliver 600 watts RMS, but I have yet to see ANY Maxxsonics Hifonics amp deliver rated power!

I would say I stand corrected, but does your amp make its rated power with all frequencies driven from 20 to 80 Hz connected to your subwoofers on stock voltage? After all, even the XX-Goliath came up a few watts short of its rated power @ 100 Hz.

Regardless, I really meant to slam the BXi line because I am still considering the XXV Colossus for a pair of DD 1508s.

I have a Bxi-1206d for $100 shipped. Wire you subs together for a 2ohm load, its does 900rms at 2ohms.......

So in other words, you tried to run your Jensen @ 1 ohm and it went poof! If you are strapped for cash, you would be better off with the Hifonics. I recommend getting it from a reputable dealer to ensure that you have a warranty, but that is totally up to you!

agreed. Most GOOD 2 ohm amps are going to struggle at 1 ohm. An amp the level of Jensen is bound to puke.

$100 on that HF is an excellent buy assuming it's in good condition.

You wouldn't. Not for a pair of dvc 4's.

You would either wire them for 4 ohms (400w rated), or 1 ohm for 1200w rated - more like 1000w realistically, but with the gain set really low your subs would be fine.
