Ultra Linear Amps

Do a search and look for ZED built amps. Most are cheap and you can't go wrong.

I believe they still make HiFonics. Possibly Lanzar and Plant Audio as well...

I believe you would be wrong! Zed is about to come out with another line of amps, but they still aren't out yet.

Maxxsonics currently makes Hifonics. Also, Lanzar isn't the same product it used to be and IIRC Planet Audio has some new owners as well. Blame it on the economy or the fact that we have become a disposable society, but no matter how you cut it, these products are not the once great power houses they used to be!

You'd be more likely to find a Zed Lanzar than a hifonics. I don't think Zed has made a hifonics for about 10 years. Lanzar's Optidrives came from Zed through '03, but you still see some new-old stock Zed opti's from time to time.

Anyway the Boss probably isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Boss is one of those companies that puts completely absurd max ratings on their stuff, so most of us that know how ridiculous those ratings are won't give them the time of day.

But the pictures at sonicelectronix show it having 2x25A fuses, the manual lists 2x35's. That would indicate 500-700w rms which isn't bad for $100 new.

I would question its durability more than anything.

That Ultra Linear has a single 30A - it will be somewhere around 300w.

King Hype is selling a hifonics bxi1206d for $100 shipped. Might be worth looking up.

I probably am wrong. Most crap is built in Korea or China these days anyway. It's difficult to keep track of who owns who now. You could always just call Steven Mantz and ask. He likes to talk shop.

So even if they do what a satisfactory job, you think they are worth the price? I've heard from some people that these two brands don't last long.

If you run it within its limit and don't do anything stupid with the gain or running to low of a load there's no reason they shouldn't last as long as any other entry level amp.

Every brand has failures from time to time. Not just the cheap stuff.
