hi im new to the fourm, and am a audio enthusist who just got two new alpine type r's 12 (dual 2ohm) and i am looking for a cheaper amp to power the 12s.. i have been looking and figured my best bets would be the Hifonics BXi 1606D 1 Ch 1600 Watt RMS .... and the Kenwood KAC-9152D - 1800MAX Watt Mono amp... say their the same price which would be a better choice and why??? thanks in advanced.. Frosty

that kenwood amp puts out 900rmsx1 @2ohm and @1ohm. I am actually getting that for my 15" IDQ!! i only need 600-700rms of those watts so i figure it will all work out. I am not familiar with the type r's arent they 500rms? If so go with hifonics deffinatly!

Kenwoods do their rated power or better, and will actually pay you to have your amp serviced locally.

I actually own hifonics AND kenwood amps right now, and you get what you pay for.

Cheap watts and real watts aren't the same thing.

Well, hell ya, but on the same coin, lanzar optidrives are amazing amps as well.

Brand names aren't the whole story.

And 'real' watts are just... there. "cheap" watts are created out of optimistic ratings.

all i'm saying is that you get what you pay for. if there's two $200 amps, and one's 1000w rms, and the other's claiming almost 2x the output, i wouldn't count on it putting out that much power.

Not that it can't happen, it can, but it generally, and usually for that matter, doesn't.

it's just a lot easier to plan out a system when you KNOW how much power you're getting for your money.

No doubt my bxi2006d was still a steal at the cost ($350 shipped) but if i knew it probably only puts out ~1500w rms, i wouldn't have spent loads of cash on 2 15" L7's......

It's ending up costing me a lot more in the long run.

a watts a watt, as long as it outputs the power amount you need at a price you like i say get it

That is what i thought, you cant have a distored amt. of electricity or a "BAD" watt. Dumb people need to not say dumb things. And if i only need 600-700rms and this kenwood amp says it outputs 900rms and i dont even need all of that then it should do its job, should it not?

hifonics is a great amp company i have had 4 of their amps and have NEVER have a problem, all i would say gettin a hifonics is that set ure gains (assuming that u are setting them with the gain settein tutorial on this forum) to a couple hundred watts under rated power.... (for example if u get a 1605d set gains to 1400 watts or somthing like) that way u can avoid unwanted clipping.... other then that they are rocksolid amps and i highly suggest them for the price..... sure they cant compete with companies like eD or orion but for the price they are awsesome amps.... how u gonna wire them if u have 2 dual 2s? i would alomst tell ya to get 2 BX1000ds they would be badass! 900-1000 rms per type r! hifonics FTW
