Hifonics Colossus vastly over rated?

Just a quick update, I picked up 2 Sundown sa 12's in an ad ported box tuned to 36hz at 1.75 cubes per chamber. Yeah, the amp has some power. It was 100% the enclosures!

Yes. They can take that amp as long as the signal is reasonably clean. If you're going to clip the hell out of it, you can't expect anything to last.
Be smart, and you'll be fine.
Doesn't that pretty much go without saying? Haha. I dont think I ever gave the impression that I was going to crank the gain.

Its set pretty modestly at the moment. I turned it up using some decaf songs for levels and as soon as the pre clip light on the amp came on I backed it down a fair amount and left it, so they should be seeing clean power.

You asked if they can take the power. I had to clarify.

Judging by you making this thread, you expected the amp to be a powerhouse. I didn't want you to crank the gain and blame advice on here when a square wave burnt your coils.

Lol, I'd rather add more information than leave stuff to interpretation. I don't know you well enough.

I had previously mentioned earlier in the thread that I had already set the gain to a level that won't clip the suns, that's why I was confused by your comment.

Either way, thanks everyone for the info, the amp really came alive once I put a decent enclosure in the mix. I ended up putting a 10" baffle on my prefab box for 2 of the soundqubeds and now just the 2 are worlds louder than the 4 in small sealed boxes.

I noticed something funny though. When I switched to the sundowns and everything got a lot louder, I started getting some serious headlight dimming at high volumes. I never even got a flicker at the same volumes with the 4 sq's. Both setups are wired to 2 ohms bridged. Why would I now be getting headlight dimming on the new setup?

2 subs have less imp rise than 4. Amp is putting out more power

Less coils equate to less rise. The amp is seeing a lower impedance and putting out more current. It has to draw more current from the power supply too. In this case, it's your car's electrical system. It can't keep up, and you're seeing the affects of voltage drop when your headlights dim/flicker.
