Hifonics Colossus vastly over rated?

Just picked up a hifonics colossus off craigslist for a sweet deal and was excited to see what it could do on my new 4 x 10 sq hs210's.

Well, it was pretty underwhelming. I know that hifonics are known to be under rated but I feel like I'm seeing nowhere near even 2000 watts. My electrical is decent but I expected this amp to put it to the test. Even at full tilt I'm getting no headlight dim, and I definitely should be seeing at least something. (Big 3, kinetik 2000 up front, 1800 in trunk)

I'm running it at 2 ohms bridged for the full 3200 watts. The amp isn't getting luke warm at most.

I'm running the subs in 2 sealed prefab enclosures at .85 cubes each. Could it be the small enclosures that are ******* the volume out?

Box is WAY to small. Plus soundqubed subwoofers don't like sealed boxes.

I ran my HDC3 10"s in 3.12 cubes tuned to 35hz.

Ok, so more than likely the enclosures are killing the volume. That's what I was hoping to hear. They're temporary until I can build something better

Yea get a custom enclosure made. What's the max dimensions you have to work with? What type of car is it in? and I'm curious.. when you say you running 2 prefab enclosures, how do u face them usually?

well if you wanna use all 4 in a trunk, you might end up using your entire trunk space.. You should consider aeroports for this design to save space.. If it's too crowded or won't fit, then you should make a super efficient box for 2 10's and just sell the other 2 subs. Measure your trunk space first to see how much you can fit. Gonna probably need about 1.5 cu each sub.

I'll probably just end up selling 2. I bought these because my fiancee wants a system in her trunk. the seller wanted 150 for the pair or 200 for all 4 so I just bought 4 to see how they'd do.

I have a 2x12 box thats 1.8 cubic feet at 38hz. Another forum member recommended mounting a baffle and cutting holes for 10's. I think I may go that route and eventually getting a pair of the hds310's

someone actually built you a box to house 2 - 12" subs, and it's 1.8^ft .... dam is that small, even for 1 - 12" .....

The Brutus series is the only Hifonics I would touch. Other Hifonics amps don't do as close to rated.

The gain settings for hifonics amps are a lot different, you need to go up a lot higher for any real output. Are you setting it with a DMM? What voltage were you getting?

Also, have all the subs face the same direction or else you will get cancellation.

Is this a new or older model colossus amp? Post a picture. You need a new box builder. Your box is the major problem.

I will face all subs the same way and see if that helps.

As for the gain settings, I set my deck to the normal listening volume (23 of 30) and then adjusted the gain until the green pre clip light came on the amp and then I backed it down very slightly.

I can't post a pic ATM as I'm at work, but its the colossus ltd 3200 dual mono. It looks like it belongs in the brutus line of a few years ago

With that trunk you have room for 2 12's. I've built several for that car. Pm me if you're interested in a custom ported.....
