Hifonics BXi1206d vs. BXi1208d

Alright, this is kind of an extremely picky question, but I want to try this hifonics amp, its 1200 rms at 1 ohm "super" class D (supposedly super efficient, okay, whatever...). But what the question is, is the newer version (i believe the 08 stands for '08) has had the bass boost reduced to 10db from 18db.

So, picky question... Why would they do that? I like bass boost, and do you think it would be worth getting an older version just for the extra 8 db bass boost at 45hz? I mean newer doesn't always mean better. I'm buying one or the other very soon, the new one is $50 more, but money isn't really an issue.

So thats the two questions: why reduce a bass boost to 10db? and do you think its worth it to get an older version just for the extra 8db on the bass boost?

(ps, if you've owned/witnessed either of these amps let me know what you think, especially any comparison in performance of the two)

So, anybody else, or is this the general consensus? And why not use a db boost?

Also, the 1206 might have a 2-gauge connect instead of a 4 like the 1208, but I only run 4-gauge wire anyway so, not really important i guess.

I had a 1206d and loved it.. just sold it about a month ago. I'm pretty sure I remember a hifonics rep telling me that the 08 models are supposed to put out more power than the 06 models... I guess they are maybe trying to get back to where hifonics USED to be?

bass boost is bad... doesnt matter if u have 1db or 23894238345dbs keep it to zero //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if you set your gain correctly you already have your amp operating just at the edge of clipping when you're pushing it hard - more times than not, boost just increases the degree of clipping which results in shit sound, and greater possibility of damaging your subs.

well, I went with the 08. I'm a little apprehensive, although thats just me being OCD as all hell. Its just that I have heard many people praise their 1206 but not seen anybody that actually has had the 1208, even though its supposedly been made better somehow. Oh well, when I hook-it all up, I'll post how it goes...

I purchased a 1208D a few months ago and works fine. It is pushing a ED 13ov in a ported box tuned to 32 hz and it sounds very good, i don't think there is any difference between the two other then the silver color and 25th anniversary marking on the 08
