Is $125 a good deal for a one year old hifonics 1606d? What would be a good sub to run with it in a 2ft^3 ported box? I have a real tight budget and I will most likely buy a used sub. I am not looking to pay over $175 for the sub. Is this amp going to have too much power for me to be able to use? Should I just keep my alpine mrp m500 and find a sub to go along with it?

Im thinking 125 is a good price for that amp. Its rated at 1600 @ 1 ohm, right? Might not do rated but itll do pretty good. Hell id buy that amp if i had the money and found one for that price.

I got two Kicker CVRs for sale. haha

Good deal. You realize it's not really one year old though, the 1606 was made in 2006 (the last two digits in hifonics amps refer the year model).

And they dont' do rated power, I would expect about 1200 out of that amp.

Either way, i'd get it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

What do you mean they dont do ratings? I have seen where it was rated 1600rms at 1 ohm and 1200 at 2 ohms and I cant remember what 4 ohms was. Were these just bs ratings or what? How many watts do you think is its rms at 1 or 2 ohms?

Will I be able to find a sub cheap enough that will handle this power and still stay under $175 used?

^^^^ true about the power rating. 1200 on a 12 volt system solid. Maybe 1500 if you could HOLD 14.4V to it.

And it might only be a year old. Could have sat on the shelf a while in 2006. The 06 models are great, IMO better than the previous models for sure.

Any good name (do your research before you buy) 1000 rms or 1200 rms sub will be happy with that amp. Or a pair of 600-750 rms subs.

for 125 i would pick one of those up quick..and at 14.4 i would say it does close to rated power....good deal, grab the amp n a decent 12 n ur prolly set...is that the biggest size box u can fit, id say type r 15 should do nice..a type r 12 would prolly handle that power nicely

Yeah i can only fit about 2ft^3. I am just putting a square box behind my drivers seat up on the backseat and I only want to take up one seat. I guess if I buy a sub without a box I will have one custom built by someone local. Or I could buy an L7 and buy a kicker specific box.

definately not. just right. Just be sure you got a good battery. If the battery is bad, extra stress will be presented to the alternator. My 2004 silverado was dipping hard in voltage with a crappy oem battery that was 4 years old. I put a new battery in, same system, no more dipping at all. Granted I went from a factory 800CCA battery to a 1000CCA, but not really that much difference there, helps more with cold start than with peaks in current draw.

I would be real careful with the type R at 1000w. For the Pioneer I would personally go with the DVC 2 and wire it for 1 -- you can always reduce the gain a little to keep the power at a safe level, however, I've heard a few less than stellar reviews on those Pio Champs.

Given your budget and space requirements you might check out the Lanzar Opti1232D, $150 shipped at onlinecarstereo. DVC 2 rated for 1100w.

I believe it's been proven w/o a reasonable doubt the 00-08 HF Brutus amps do not do rated power (the jury is still out on the '10's), but that doesn't make them a bad amp. The point is they're very powerful for the price.
