hi new here some some questions

i got this dual sub box http://www.subzoneusa.com/12_hshd_series.htm the hd-12v series. i also got two http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3616_Kicker+05C124.html in them. now the problem is that when i unblock the holes on the side of the box where you connect the wires, the bass hits alot harder. how come this is happening? im new to all this so im sorry if i ask to much questions.

P.S. i know some of you will get mad because i did this (by mad i mean telling me its stupid and i have no idea what im doing but remember im new to all this) but i have them connected to my big stereo in my room. i did this because i was testing them before i put them in my car because i got them from a friend. i have a alpine amp, kedwood deck.

The enclosure aparently has push-in style speaker wire terminals. Or I guess he could have screw-in, and he unscrewed them. Point is he prefers the sound with with wire terminals removed, effectively having not even a port (3/4" long port? lol), but basically a massive air leak.

It 'hits harder' because you just added a nasty large peak in output probably somewhere in the upper bass region. Louder doesn't always equal sounding better, and being louder is certainly not always a positive change.

welcome to the site bud, the problem does sound tike u have an air leak that ur not suposed to be havin however a kicker sub usualy does sound better in a ported box

For one you are probbaly sending a full range signal to your subs, maybe you get more mids because you can hear the back of the cone playing them through the holes??

When you unblock those holes your sub is not getting the air resistance that it was getting with the enclosure using just the ports.

You probbaly need more power to bring this thing to life.

1. Hook them up to the alpine with alow pass filter and then write back.
