Hi, just joined this great site. I replaced a working amp in my Donzi power boat with a precision power sendona 580-4. connected to a Sony marine ms60. The boat has power + ground blocks under the dash that the old amp was wired to which worked for 2-3 yrs. Block power everything on the dash gauges ect. Problem is when I turn on the system it will either run all day untill I shut it off. or I have to shut off the head 3-4-5 times to get the amp to stay on, because it goes into protect mode, I replaced all the old wires trying to solve this problem the ppi staying on. It works for a 1/2 second, then goes into protect mode and has to be re powered several times to get it to stay on. Equipment is REALLY hard to get to being tucked way in the boat. Anybody got an Idea whats going on? The amp is out of warranty because I bought in March and we had a cold wet spring in NH. Ive checked everything 3-4 times and replaced all the wiring with new connectors. still does it. Not an expert but, have some basic knowledge. Any help would be Really, Really appreciated. BB

Sounds like a speaker wire shorting or a bad power connection. I'd go back through all connections and make sure there are no frayed wires that could get together.

Boats are a very rough environment for audio equipment, so a thorough check of all speaker connections would be a good ideas as well.

Thanks I did change the power wire and connector on both the ground and power wire and the connection from the head and all the connectors out of the PPI amp also. It connects to the 30 amp fused section of the power block with a slide on female connector, as does the grounding block with a female slide on type. Could the power + ground slide on connectors be the problem for current flow for the PPI amp which has twice the power of the old lighting 2 channel amp? I re installed the lighting amp for a weekend, 2 weeks ago and it turned on and worked fine. Reinstalled the ppi last friday and it worked on + off all last weekend. Mostly wouldnt stay on, very frustrating.......:) I have to rip the boat apart to get to the amp

That amp (the Sedona) should be wired with a minimum of 8 gauge wire. So yeah, if the existing amp wiring is fused at 30 amps it's likely 10 gauge wire, which could cause some problems with the amp heating up during heavy use.

The 30 amp fuse could also be near blowing and causing excessive current draw but, I would get the correct sized wire to the amp regardless. Also, don't rely on the fuse panel for amp power... go directly to the battery.

Speakers R JL (2) 7.7 front ( with 1" separate tweeters) and (2) JL 6.5 rear. system sounds great when it works, The power block has 10 different auto style fuses ranging from 5 to 30 amps. R U saying the 30 amp fuse is 2 big for this unit? Getting to the fuse block is easy. Should I try a smaller 20 or 15 amp fuse in the block? I used the largest wire that would fit in the round type connectors that fit screws on the the plus + minus of the amp. I think is #8 wire. The only other 30 amp fuse in the + power block runs the hydraulic trim tab pump for the trim tabs on the back of the boat. Maybe I could try connecting the plus + minus amp wires to the main huge wire that feed the blocks? Thanks for helping out. It is a Cigarette style boat that takes a pounding + could have a chaffed speaker wire, but the other 2 channel amp always work last week every time I turned it on?

I have a donzi also and I ran my amps directly to the battery not to a power block. It is possible its just. Not getting what it needs or you have too low of a ohm load somewhere

does it stay on if you rev the engine?

I have a multi battery setup in my boat and if the isolator isnt charging the stereo battery and it drops voltage then ive seen my amps go into protect...

Hi again, time to get the boat splashed. Im done frigging with this amp. Whats the best 4 channel marine amp for around $250- $300. Im looking @ the rockford fosgate line. Thanks, Happy Spring.
