hey i got some pro60's ran off a MBQ raa2400 amp. here is my question.
the amp is running off of 4v preouts (from the alpine). the amp comes with little clip indicator lights but either they are screwed up or im an idiot. well i turn my HU up to 30/35 and put in a -6db test tone. using that i turn my gains up as high as theyll go till the clip indicator light comes on, then turn it down a little till they go out...then i bust out my dmm, measure which channel has the lowest voltage, and match the two channels to that voltage...ok well now i put in a music cd, turn it up to 30/35 and guess what...its saying that the music is clipping!! ok well im thinking screw it, now i just turn down the gain till the clipping lights go out. ok...man these bostons REALLY arent anywher near as loud as my cdts were off a a little less than 200 watts...and these bostons are supposedly getting 300? anyways, i take out my dmm and measure the voltage with the new gain setting...12 volts is what it reads. hmmm using the gain setting equation 300 watts x 3ohms is 900. the square root of 900 is 30...meaning 30volts...how can i set it to 30 volts when it clips at 12volts?! or at least the amp says it clips at 12 volts...even though i can TELL that they want more power...im just scared to blow such nice speakers...
WELL WHAT YA GUYS THINK? im down to hear any opinons, and any experiences you guys have had...again i had cdts off about 170 watts id say, that were MUCH louder...post away!
