hey republicans

Yes, very miniscule percentages...but considering the numbers as a whole, you are looking at 90,000+ folks signing those petitions...and these have only been accumulating for a matter of hours (72 hrs, give or take)
90,000 folks. +300 million US population. That would be .0003%. Hardly a significant amount of citizens prepared for succession.

I am sure it might have bugs to work out but DUDE look at the GREAT system we have NOW!!!!
Let me know when you come up with a better idea.

READ....don't base your decisions about the fair tax off of some talking points of someone in power that doesn't want it to happen.........7 million dollars went into researching it with numerous prominent economists........
What is the FairTax | What is a Consumption Tax | Tax Reform Solutions - Americans For Fair Taxation
Really dude? Quoting how well the fair tax will work, directly from a fair tax website. That is the equivalent of McDonalds saying they have better hamburgers than Burger King.

that's to read up on how it works..............where else was I to send you to BURGER KING.....what site did you expect the info about the fair tax to be on .......IRS.gov?

You guys WHINE about the current tax system and how the RICH are getting away with murder but you degrade EVERY other offer of something that could be better?

But I keep forgetting that most of you like having your lives dictated and controlled from Washington........MY BAD....

Read up on the fair tax proposal from the biased site which is pushing for the fair tax (fairtax.org?). I shouldn't have to point out why this makes no sense. That is like Romney saying he was the better candidate while pointing to his own website as proof.

You want to know why WW2 helped end the depression.......well it didn't do it by itself......Let me explain when FDR took office Hoover had raised Government spending by 50% and then when your boy FDR took office he increased spending to 83% and you know what that got us 14% unemployment in 1937 and then by 1939 it was 19%....So as you can see when the Government spends money in a Keynesian fashion all it does is creates unemployment......The reason that WW2 helped with the recession is because by the time the war came around FDR had rescinded MOST of the NEW DEAL's regulations and he realized that he needed our industry and he stopped demonizing them....A lot of the money spent on the war was spent privately....The government had little to do with our recovery at all......As a matter of fact when FDR realized after the war that he was about to have 10 million soldiers coming home looking for work he tried to pass a bill called the "Bill Of Economic Rights"......Our then Congress repudiated the bill and instead CUT taxes, removed the price controls that were in place and rescinded a bunch of regulations........In other words the GOV got off of the backs of the businesses and corporations in this country and we bounced back.......As much as you would love for it to work the Government interjecting itself into our economy hurts it......it has NEVER helped it......If Congress back then had allowed FDR to do it his way the temporary bump our economy got would have been QUICKLY rescinded........All of this information is NOT made up and is easily found in our history books but you won't look it up......Now that I have brought you some facts you will just spout off some more LIBERAL or Prog bullshit whichever one you consider yourself.......You Liberals are so damned smart yet you bring NO knowledge of what the hell you are talking about to the table......

Oh and Deficit spending has NEVER once successful stimulated a recovery of anything so you guys just keep on doubling down because your on a roll now.....

If businesses ran their finances in this BORROW and SPEND sorta style they would wind up in Bankruptcy pretty quick but the difference is that Government can RUN in the RED because Government doesn't need to turn a profit......It can just turn to the American people when it needs a few more dollars......You guys are an absolute joke!!!

So let's review.........FDR raised spending by 83% and unemployment went to 14% and then 2 years later 19% ........Poor old George Bush wasn't around back then so who is at fault that all of FDR's spending didn't put Americans back to work?......I am listening......

And it looks a lot like if the Government gets off of the backs of the American people and businesses things start to turn around as in after 1945 when TAXES and REGULATIONS were cut.........Imagine that......

Don't confuse what I am saying either with defense of the Republicans because I am NOT giving the Republicans a pass....They are JUST as liable as the rest of those guys.........
If FDR's policies were so horrible, how was the GDP growth the highest it's ever been, other than during WWII, right after he was elected?

And I already told you why unemployment shot up again in the ate 30s: it's because FDR ended the stimulus spending and tried to balance the budget because conservatives demanded it. It failed miserably, and he resumed it and it began to go down again. Notice how the deficit goes down to 0 right around when the unemployment shot up:

And you act like unemployment being at 14% isn't a huge improvement, unemployment was 25% when FDR was elected.

And "A lot of the money spent on the war was spent privately"? Um, who do you think was paying for all those tanks and planes? It was the Government. This stuff really isn't hard.

I support the idea of a national sales tax. One issue it would resolve, that is rarely mentioned, is the illegal immigrant situation. Right now, with an income tax based system, illegals are able to avoid paying a large amount of what would otherwise be their fair share (they still pay sales tax). If we used a national sales tax, even an illegal would pay their fair share of taxes, because they buy stuff just like legal citizens do. And I also can see the gradation of a national sales tax, as was said before, rich people buy more, and more expensive, items. But, I have an open mind, and would like to see the negatives of such a system. Im sure those negatives exist, but as it stands now, you have provided none of them, only claimed they exist. If you want us to discuss this topic, and possibly see your point, you need to provide some details. Thanks.

Im not at all sure I believe in discouraged spending. People will always want and need things. Our bracketed income tax structure could be said to discourage people from becoming rich (and hence spending more), which could also be said to discourage spending.

Much of the negatives seem to revolve around encouraging 'investing' rather than spending. For example, home ownership. But I suggest that these things could be adjusted for, such as no (or less) sales tax when purchasing your home or investing in your business. The negative, "tax evasion and instances of black market purchasing would likely increase", I also find to be faulty logic because tax evasion on income tax is already easy to accomplish, especially for the wealthy who can afford to hire tax attorneys. Its true that a simple fair-tax system with a fixed tax rate for any and all purchases is not the solution, some adjustments would need to be made. But its a much better base system to start with than is income tax, imo. I completely disagree with the negatives of many accountants losing their jobs, and the transition cost being high, because the long term benefits far outweigh the short term problems. If we, as a society, decided a law was unfair/unjust, would we still maintain this law so that cops and prison workers dont lose their jobs? If we applied that sort of mentality universally, slavery would still be legal, as that exact same logic was used to try and discourage its abolishment.

Thanks for the links.
