hey this is my problem,

i helped my friend install his amp a couple of days ago...all went well...untill the next morning...his battery was dead. I told him it must be an alternator or battery prob but he said that he thinks I have it wired to be on all of the time, therefore running down his battery overnight. I have the power wire 8 gauge running directly to the battery and the system control wire (the light blue wire on an aftermarket stereo) to the AC switch...it only works witht the car on and I used the voltage tester to prove it. and when he turns the car off the LED power light turns off also...is it possible that even though the LED was off that the power wire still ran down the battery??? or was he slowly burning up the battery while he drove around for 2 hours after the install...his car is a late 80's mazda...little japanese car....needs inspection maybe bad alt or bad battery or maybe he needs a cap even though it is only a 200 watt max amp. please help soon i need to help him......thanks

I would think that hes got some sort of an alternator problem.

you sound like you know what you're doing, therefore the amp wouldn't be drawing power because its only on when the Remote Lead activates (the blue lead)

It would seem that the stereo/amp's are drawing more power than the alternator is charging back into the battery.....

I would go off to the autoelectricians.

Hope that helps, its just my opinion, i may be completely wrong.........

hey man...do you know what exact model it is ?

i have an old mazda too and when i had first put in my amp i got sort of the same problem

tell me something...while he is driving...is the charge light coming on and the car shuts down ?

i got mine checked and my alt was serviced and now it's fine...although i took out all the equipment because of carjackers

he shoudl get it checked out....maybe he needs a more powerful battery also...more "crankin" amps

thanks and i agree this does help...he told me that his dad said that I wired it so that it always takes power...even when the car is off.........but the LED light doesnt lie....when the amp is off it is off....keep posting people I can still use more input...and thanks to those that helped

i would have to agree w/ all of the above...it does sound like the amp is drawing more current than his alt is able to handle....recomend gettint it rewound or replaced w/ a higher output alt...goodl uck

yeh man once the LED doesnt come on it means the amp is off...so it cant be the amp drawing current while the car is off

after my alt was serviced i had no problems

also make sure it is the proper gauge wire and correct size of fuse etc

what kinda amp it is btw ?

the amp is a two cahnnel 200 watt max...yea and 80 watt per channel max...pioneer...not very big...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
