I am not, nor should be, considered a hero of any cause. I don't stand for anything...and that is my greatest failure.I try to live, to show what I am in more than words. I am not suprised or upset by anything here. This is a great forum, a great topic, with 2 radically different sides. I do wish we could debate with respect, as shown by Flip. Christianity is my life, and to read some of the words is sad, not the questions of my faith, but the derogatory comments could be left at the door. but I expect no less
Not necessarily pointing directly at you, just in general.
haaahahaha. i don't get why ppl hate religion or the idea of a supreme being. atheism or a strictly scientific life isn't any better.I try to live, to show what I am in more than words. In your void of substance you reign! Math is your religion, you stand for something, and it is called statistics!I am not, nor should be, considered a hero of any cause. I don't stand for anything...and that is my greatest failure.
holy shit!!! i think this alotI am not, nor should be, considered a hero of any cause. I don't stand for anything...and that is my greatest failure.
i try to be and feel that i am a good person( for the most part) with no religion or faith so hopefully it works out for me.Believing in no after life has a payoff of zero.
Belieiving in some form of afterlife has a pay of 1,000,000.
Odds of guessing the right religion: 1 : 1,000,000
HOWEVER, living your life (in your actions) to benefit the world around you has an incalcuable payoff....even if it doesn't get you into heaven. I think I will be content in hell knowing I did the best I could.
and that statement right there is one of my biggest theories about religion. to me it seems maybe religion was created to give people something to look forward to. to give people that security blanket that everything will be ok and that everything happens for a reason. What make you think Christians don't question? I question everyday "why" why is my son retarded? why has my business failed? why am I 38yrs old and losing my house, why would God allow this to happen?
My answer is, I don't know why! I do know the strenght I get from this religion or faith that you (collectively) find so ignorant is what makes me continue everyday with an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif (with a few exceptions, Bad days:laugh![]()
But that doesn't require faith. I have a friend who is a strong believer...because he has faith...and I have to await a peer reviewed journal...he has a capacity I do not...I am not readily able to articulate this capacity though...nor examine its efficacy. In your void of substance you reign! Atheism, is the true irony, in its effort to be devoid of religion the vacuum of religion is it's god, so it in it self is a religion:laugh:haaahahaha. i don't get why ppl hate religion or the idea of a supreme being. atheism or a strictly scientific life isn't any better.
that didnt help my christmas or easter. i do not believe in santa or the easter bunny anymore than i did before //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gifBelieving in no after life has a payoff of zero.

Are you suggesting that the "establishment of the church" is a regressive tax?
The path from hope to faith is not a great leap. In time, it will come. I promise.i try to be and feel that i am a good person( for the most part) with no religion or faith so hopefully it works out for me.
I see nothing wrong with religion as a mechanism for hope. Even if it is a crock....what's the big deal?[/b]and that statement right there is one of my biggest theories about religion. to me it seems maybe religion was created to give people something to look forward to. to give people that security blanket that everything will be ok and that everything happens for a reason.
if thats the truth than your god sucks. you are losing your home, your kid is retarded, he lets successful young people like that pitcher for the angels (ironic i know) get killed by some loser drunk driver, and he allowed catholic priests to **** young children.
the other day i saw on the news a guy here from cleveland. he got drunk, drove, slammed into a woman that was standing behind her car getting something out of her trunk. pinned her between both cars paralyzing her. you know what he had the nerve in court to say. that it really wasnt his fault that god does everything for a reason.... then i though, wow, if that judge truly believes in god this guy should get off for what he did. technically that is true, god did that not him...... convenient huh?
i just think that thousands of years ago people didnt have anything to live for. they lived to survive. therefore its very believable to me to think it was created so those people had something to live for and be happy about.
and again thats my opinion and just a theory but to me its more believable than the talking snake, burning bush, jonah and the whale and jesus rising from the dead.
