Non-believers are threatened by the mathematics that the payoff is greater for belief vs. non-belief. If they aren't, then they **** at math and should jump off the nearest bridge to temp gravity as well.
Faith can be based on adverse outcome. That is not necessarily fear.
Fear is wishing to avoid adverse outcome; conversley I am hoping my lifestyle conforms to a "normative" outcome. A normative outcome means going to heaven...people may change behavior, not to avoid hell, but to achieve entrance to heaven. To say, as you did, that the majority is risk averse, is false.
Not in the USA anyway. The USA overwhelming choses "heaven" in assymetrical payoffs.
