Hertz HCX 165's ??

Didn't realize that phase alignment had anything to do with it...But, I do realize that I'm asking a lot out of my full range drivers. To me though..the best SQ rides that Ive ever heard didn't rely solely on the subs for that low end sound. I would like to get as much of that low end as possible with my full range speakers (makes them sound warmer/truer imo.) that way when I tune/blend my sub in... (to pick up everything from 16hz up to 50hz) it will have a nice rich sound to it.

In theory...lol

It's possible that the subs were still producing the low end but were aligned so well that it seemed to come from the mids which is what u want.

I think, sometimes, people expect too much from their mids and forget that the sub is there to reproduce the low end for you. There's absolutely no harm done by using your sub even in an sq build. The only issue is preventing the subs from being localized, with proper phase alignment, this can be achieved. FWIW, I used to try to run my mids super low for a full sound too....while they'd play it, they had no authority. So, I put the xover point at about 63hz 24db slope and same for my subs and got them properly aligned and the difference was day and night.

It may seem cool to have mids playing down to 40 or 50 hz, but If it doesn't sound good, you've missed the point. You've gotta find what works best for your equipment, and in my experience with BA PROs and even way better mids, you likely won't get subwoofer-like authority from your front mids....so make the sub do its job.

you can get a sub to blend in with the front stage, such that you don't even know it's behind you. i've gotten bass and even sub bass placed in a sound stage (both the accord and scion). pretty cool. level plays a huge role, and some T/A

Yeah, I'm starting to see what you guys are saying...I've been playing with the T/A the past couple days and I got it to the point that I don't even miss not having my rear fill.

I think part of my issues with the thinness or lack of low end tone(and the "punchy-ness"" was that my parametric eq is only 5bands...And, evidently I don't quite know how to use it. lol

I switched up to the 7band Grapghic EQ and it made a world of difference with my tone. I finally have the Pro's sounding pretty freakin' good right now.

On the T/A...I put 24inches of delay on my FL & FR channels and like 16inches of delay on my RR & LR channels...While it did seem to "center my stage" is this enough delay for my sub? Right now it's located about a foot from my back hatch(facing backward) So, it's technically about 5feet from the listening position. Should I add more delay or no? When is it too much?

Again, thanks for your help guys...

All I did was delay the front and right sides until the sub seemed to move up front....it will be noticeable; and just takes some playing around with...I remember seeing some formulas online to calculate how much delay to use, but I think your ears are way better than any formula....

It took me a few days of listening and a tweak here and there to get it where I wanted as far as the midbass blending...just keep playing with it. Once u find that sweet spot, you'll know it.

So, I'm thinking that...If my vocals sound like they're coming out from under my mirror and I can't tell where my mid-bass drops off and my sub picks up. That I must have it tuned correctly, right?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Depends......do u find random reasons to drive places so u can listen to it more and more?

If so, yes you're doing it right lol

So, my next question would be...How dangerous would it be for me to buy another 700/5 amp bridge the main channels to my rear speakers and use BOTH amps to power my sub?? (giving it 600wrms)

I could do this and have more power(headroom) for about half the price of the JL Audio HD900/5..

And YES, I do take the long way home now days...lol

I'm not sure how u can use both amps for that one sub...I wasn't aware the JL XD amps were strappable.....as far as I know, that wouldn't be a good idea...

I'd sell the current 5 channel for a nice 4 channel with the power u want and then run a separate sub amp.

yeah, the guy here at the dealer said that it "could" work but that I would have to basically have one amp per voice coil...And, it would have to be set up perfectly with a dmm or I would kill the sub. Said the voltages would have to match exactly.

And yes, most likely what you're saying is what I'm going to do...In a perfect world I would like to get a HD600/4 for my front stage/rear fill, then get an HD750/1 for my sub. I just don't have that kind of money right now and I could pretty much match the output of those two amps buy just buying another XD700/5.

Also...Have you ever bought any Hertz speakers (or any high end speakers for that matter) off of eBay??
