Heres a religion thread that will piss a lot of you hippies off

Also, extremely good point on the 'happy place' thoughts. Just look at the insane rise in Positive religion feedback when the 9/11 issues first occurred. Everyone rushed to churches and prayed, even people who never went. It shows that in times of severe trouble, we turn to the rock solid, the constant, and it is the Bible. It is here, and people can reply on it's soothing words and steadfast truths when they are shaking and weak, unable to support themselves. And that is the nature of the true religion and a good church. I was happy to see it, even though I knew it was short lived. Face it, religion is only important to many when they are in trouble. When everything is fine and dandy, they can forget praying, their usual church going etc... even though it isn't necessarily required, it is still encouraged.

does the bold statement not hold true to what friends are for as well? I have the best friends in the world, was happy as I could be in orlando now that I look back at it, I had no religious beliefs at all there, never was "down". I just dont see peope running to church as making it rock solid. The rise in religious action, is because the general public wants a quick fix to things that arent what they normally are.

To characterize aethists in such a manor is quite ignorant.
I was not trying to bash really. I was saying that the aetheists that I KNOW fit that exactly. One was molested by his father and has no faith in god now and the others parents could care less about him growing up to the point that they threw him out on his own at age 15. My other friend my sexually assaulted by his grandfather to have his parents tell him that he couldnt' tell anyone and never to bring it up again.

So, I am saying what I know from people that are close to me that do not believe in god. I'm not going to say that EVERY aetheist in the whole world has been touched and are not loved.

Then again, its not right for anyone on here to say that ALL christians push the bible in your face. I consider myself a christian and don't even have a bible. Nor do I care if someone reads it or not. Actually, most of my friends are wiccan or just don't believe at all.

praise jesus!!!!! pl8er has made me see the error of my ways. i immediately put down my crack pipe and have stopped watching **** in front of my grandmother. very insightful. do ya think a ***********, crack smoking, toothless atheist could join your church? gosh i hope so. i would to be the one judging others faults, helping god out so to speak. how much of my money would it take to be a part of ypur congregation?
LOL...wow. This may be the first time I have got attention like this. Again, I am not really religious, I can care less if your atheist, and most of my good friends are. I was trying to shed some light on my personal opinion on why someone would want to say we are all completely alone in the world. No bash towards what seems to be a mostly atheist forum. If you took it that way, my apology. As I stated above, I have 4 friends who fit into my description (molested, abused, casted away from their parents at a very early age).

It just seems to me that my atheist friends are more often the ones pushing the fact to the world that they don't believe in god.

**Edit** ROFL I just realized that I changed my avatar yesterday. HA! Irony, I didnt' really think about it till I was re-reading through. I put that in and a few hours later started on this thread. :p

I never denied that this was easily a possibility. I never narrow my mind to one tract like this. it was a general statement. Of course my friends are generally constant. The point is that the Bible has lasted all of time, something you and I will not do. The 'constant' comparison was based on the fact that you can go and find a Bible or church anywhere. Your friends are not everywhere as a religion can be. Of course phones, internet, etc.. have made it easier to use friends as a constant. My argument for this is if you piss off your friend, he can turn his back on you, whereas the TRUE religion should NEVER turn it's back on you regardless. people who scoff at you for your looks, are not following the religion correctly.

How is religion supposed to quick fix? it is just a belief. It has no properties to repair, physical things. The Word and the church are a safe haven. That is what I have only seen it as. it is no more than a place to congregate with fellow believers and to get away from the troubles of your life/world.

You are correct. Many are now raised blindly on religion, even if the teachers are not exactly going for that effect. It's impossible to allow for someone you love to learn for their own if you are trying to protect them from society's evils, and bring them up in the Chrisitan faith. Ignorance from a protected life does not have to be religion, it can be on any subject //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As for the organized religion being cracked up. Thoroughly agree. I do not like these large televised preachers in their 5,000 plus congregation, I believe that these guys are to absorbed in their large church size and large funds.

Speaking of funds. Church + state = bad. See Roman empire and Catholic church. That should explain alot. Anyways, those funds should not have come from the state, because you are right, these funds could have gone into hospitals, disease research, etc.... Separating church and state is wisest, regardless of the fact that this nation was founded on religious beliefs.

And, please do not do the same that those uptight high nosed 'religious' people did to you, it isn't the right thing to do as an adult. 'you' non-believers....doesn't sound good does it? No. I would never use that, as it sounds deragatory to thise sensitive to it. I wish not to be a 'you' even though I am of the same religion. I would never hold my nose high against you. I do not wish to have you think i would, because regardless of whther or not you will believe me, I can understand you. WITHOUT talking down on you. That is what someone in a religion is supposed to do or strive for. Understanding.

No, it never has been said to have a requirement. It's easy to understand why. What happens to natives in Africa who are ***** but show an interest in Christianity. No rule is being bent here. Never does it say in the Bible you need a suit to pray, or that you have to kneel to do so.

And you must realize, the religion is separate from the individual. The religion did not turn his nose up at you, the individual who is supposed to be representing it did. He was not correct in what he did, and was a bad example of the religion. Plain and simple, it says in the Bible to be the Salt and the Light to the world, they were not. I'm sorry that that is the crap you grew up with. I grew up with a better religious environment, and am grateful for it. You were not as fortunate, and I do not blame you for your malice towards the religion. It's ashame those tards down their could not stop puffing their chests out to realize they were pushing more away out of personal interests, rather than being there for the religion as it is supposed to be. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Hmm I'm compelled I didn't get to voice my opinion on religion, which mind you isn't pleasant or supportive.
Guess I should check back more often

Well, if you had actually studied nearly any religion, you'd have an answer for that. God created us all to worship him, but when Eve (and Adam) ate the fruit, we gained knowledge of evil. It wasn't God's original plan for us to do bad things, but he didn't want us to be mindless drones who can do nothing but worship him, because it's impossible to TRULY love something when that's all you can actually do and you have no choice.
It's quite easy to see why you can be held accountable for your actions, he left a guidebook for you, all you have to do is read it.
I don't think you understood my argument. I'm saying that my soul, you know that thing that gives me the ability to choose whether to follow God's way or not, was GIVEN to me by God.

In other words, lets assume my soul is inherently evil... My soul was still created by God. So how can I be punished for being created?

So, to make the connection to your Adam and Eve argument, I don't understand how Adam can be punished for eating the apple when God gave him a soul which lacked the wisdom to NOT eat the apple. Get it?

LOL...too funny. I wish people could meet me in RL. Just because I'm so laid back. I never really get too worked up over anything. Its like "hey man I ran over your mom" and I'm like "dang, think she is gonna be ok?" Then they are like "no, I ran over her head" then me "dang, too bad" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ockham's Razor `Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate'', which translates as ``entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily''.

In many cases this is interpreted as ``keep it simple'', but in reality the Razor has a more subtle and interesting meaning. Suppose that you have two competing theories which describe the same system, if these theories have different predictions than it is a relatively simple matter to find which one is better: one does experiments with the required sensitivity and determines which one give the most accurate predictions.

googled some shit ..... Which is more believeable a lone being created every living organism ever single piece of matter in the whole enitre universe while also creating a infine place of hell and heaven to suit each persons who utopia and walking on water raising the dead fire from the heavens and so on. OR the big band theory which is more complex then anything ever even attempted to be explained in relgion. this happens cuase he says so or this happens cuase selected enviromental pressures causing this organism to be more apted to survive and pass on those traits i.e. Natural selection which is a very common and widley accepted theory (thanks for darwin and wallace for that) We will probably never be able to understand how the universe got started but we have made much progress on understanding some stuff. We can never know it all but why stop trying that is what drives humans. relgion was created as a way to escape the harsh relaites of this world. to belive that there is hope even when there is no hope. we would all like to believe we are not alone our lives mean more then just the things we do or the clothes we wear or the people we know. To lazy to quote the movie "Fightclub" i will die just like every other organism on this planet and rot away. Does this bother me at all nope not at all. I live my life to the fullest or so I hope i do. Our brain creates things that even the brightest minds in the world are still in awe about. why couldn't it create a whole personality and morlas and beliefs and everything that makes each person different. If what I say does not have some truth to it why is thre so many relgions all based around a supior being providing hope or guidance on how to live your life. the bible may have been made as a code to live such as maybe a law code but threw story telling and ignorance passed on and now consumes this world.

My spelling and grammer is crap its a lil past 1 am and i don't really care lol

more opion based as the post contunies sorry for that
