I'm trying to decide on what to major in and mechanical engineering is one of the options. i was just wanting to know what your work schedule and enviroment is like. Do you go to a lot of meeting, mostly stay in an office all day, build model, etc. Also how many hours do you usually work a week, and if you don't mind, how much do you make?

I am an ME major, but haven't gotten to any ME courses yet. From what I've heard there are endless possibilities for jobs in the field. From research to management...

That's not necessarily true. It really depends on your company. I've worked for GE, and a DOD contractor, and both were pretty strict about their employees working too many hours. I know that it affected me more than the salary workers, but even still, everyday the NASA/contractors would come in and work their hours but rarely more than what it took to acheieve 40 hours/week. I came in at 7:30 and left at 4:00 everyday. Others came in and worked from 6:30 to 3:00. It was up to the worker, and as long as 40 hours were completed it didn't matter.Hardly anyone did over 40 hours in my organization. Some people would even work 10 hours/day and not come in on Fridays. Government jobs FTW (except for pay).

If your a strong performer in math, then you would be good in that field. I tried it, hated it, switched to business management. Now I am a boss to the engineers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif They have more fun than I do though, but I can tell them what to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I was more referring to the schooling rather than the occupation.
